Stock Honda S2000 (preferably 2000-2003 models) vs 1995 Toyota MR2 Turbo (American Spec)

Your thoughts...I'm not only talking about straight lining but also handling, styling, the works.

When comparing stock, the S2000 is faster. A stock turbo MR2 has 210 horsepower and 200 lb ft torque. I believe it weighs about the same as the S2K as well (~2800lbs).

But, once you mod the MR2, it will blow away the S2K. My girlfriend is looking for a turbo MR2 that she plans on modding with a J-spec engine.

She's a gearhead that formerly had an 11-second GSX. She's also had a 2nd gen turbo MR2 and a 2nd and 3rd gen RX7.

I'll need to get a supercharger to have my S2K keep up with her MR2.

Don't be fooled by the MR-2's old age. Those MF's are quick as hell. They have a lot of torque and jump out quick. The S2000 can run them down, but only with perfect shifting technique. I ran with one with very light mods and we were neck and neck until about 115. I was so suprised.

Frankly, I was looking at the Toyota when I bought my 'S' (as well as the Miata). What I liked was the price...despite it's lack of ponies, it is a nice convertible for the money. You either love the styling or hate it...I tend to like it more than I hate it.

I believe the Miata is a better overall choice in this price segment. However, if you can't afford an 'S', and want to have a nice, reliable convertible, I don't see how you can overlook the Toyota (or Miata).

EDIT: SORRY, MY BAD...saw you want to compare '95 MR2.

I used to own a MR2. You can launch those very easily due to the engine being in the rear. Problem is, the chances of finding a 95 turbo are next to 0. Finding a turbo of any year in decent condition, much less `95, is going to be difficult.

I've played with the MR2 on the highway..They are one sweet ride... I don't know if it was stock but i was pulling very slightly.. After i had shut down he went by about a mile down the highway.. Next thing i know i'm driving into a thick cloud of white smoke... I was thinking that he had spun out and crashed but I couldn't see him anywhere.. Must've gotten off at the next exit.... Those cars are fast as hell... Beware of modded mr2's.. Oh yeah, I found out a couple of weeks later that he blew his engine racing a silver s2k on the highway...

A minor point, but there is no 1999 model. It starts with MY2000 and yes I know those came out in October/November of 1999. Still no MY1999.
