only the 99-00 Si and the new one coming out have VTEC.

the rest have either SOHC vtec or VTEC-E, neither of which I consider true VTEC
Actually the Civic Del Sol had a B16 in it back in the mid 90's... so the Si's are not the only, as you would say, "TRUE" VTEC civics. Yes, Del Sol's are Civics technically. Also all the Japanese Civics were available in a DOHC version too. In Japan I think the CRX, which is also a Civic had a B series motor in 90 or 91 when the NSX debut happen.

I totally agree with you.

NSX $55,000 MSRP (Now you give me an NSX with a V8 with 380hp and 324tq then I will entertain the $85,000 MSRP)
S2000 $32,000 MSRP

Thats how I honestly see the two cars in a price comparison. The inflatted $30,000 on the NSX is what the dealers try to make IMO. NO way is it worth more than $55,000 IMO. I just dont buy it.
As much as I love the NSX, I agree too. I think they are great cars, and still perform well for what they are, especially the NSX-R, which is a beast of a track car. Although, it boils down to paying so much money for not much power. I understand and realize the R&D and hand built components of the car, its a beauty, but for 90k, I can't whole heartedly justify that when I can get my hands on a Porsche in that range. I'd give it 60k but your still looking at Z06 performance in those money numbers.

Believe me, I've tested an NSX, S2K has nothing to do against.

Maybe only the different but equally looks and the roof....

But any other bit of the whole car is exceeded by the NSX magnificence.

yea the JDM crx got the B16A in 1988 I believe (not sure on the model year). I think it came out before the NSX. The NSX was the first VTEC in the US, though.

Honda's goal was performance first.

Wasn't the NSX built to combat the 355 and 911s? It matched it in performance and everything for a lot less right?

Wasn't the S2000 built to combat the Z3 M Roadster, Boxster S, Audi TT and the likes? It beat them all in performance for a lot less right?

Sure the other cars have a lot more prestige because of their price and name whereas Honda also sells cars to the masses but that's what is so great. An affordable car WITH high level performance for those that want the fun but don't want to pay for the name (or like me can't afford a Porsche/Ferarri).

The NSX is a better performing car than the S... as it should be!

It is grossly overpiced and highly underpowered... 290hp is it? and heavier than the S? for 3x the price!!! I'll save my money. It's a nice looking car, sure, but why not get a used esprit or a new/used vette and invest 30-40k into it?

Honestly, I would rather pick up an S, invest the money I would have spent on an NSX, and absolutely mod the hell out of it. Think about what you could do with 50k to an s2k!!!

NSX=Big Bro
S2K=Little Bro
TypeR= Mean Cousin
SI= Little Sis

That all. Different cars. It's a shame. We're all from the same family.

i obviously own a s2000 but i'd take an NSX over a s2000 any day of the week.

nsx is an exotic. s2000 is a sports car.

big difference (there should be, the nsx is 3 times the cost of a s2000!)

i said the nsx is NOT overpriced because it offers the performance of much more expensive cars as does the S. before the S, you couldn't touch something like it for nearly twice as much, making it undervalued, realtively.

I greatly respect the NSX and those of you who think 90k is too much are just looking at the hp numbers like MHZ on computers. the nsx has major bus speed. but, i have driven one myself and honestly liked the S2k WAY more for the road feel and excitment.
