Is the s2k worth the $30k price tag value?
8 years w/ no sig. improvements is irrelevant. IMO, the content/value of the car (wheels, stereo, glass rear window, styling, etc.) has increased well beyond the price increase.
Besides, what's better for cheaper? I'm talking the full sports car experience, not just acceleration times.
IMO, it's still very hard to beat the S2000's bang for the buck, esp. w/ used ones. Variety is the spice of life, though, and sometimes it's fun to try the competition.

Yes, 5000-7000 people a year pay 30K for an S2000, including a lot of people on this forum. So it's worth it. Your are asking on an S2000 forum, so you must want to be convinced. But take your time shop around.

Didn't you have a supercharged S2000 for like 2 weeks before returning to stock?
What are you currently driving?
How many cars are you able to afford at once?
What's your predicted use for the car: daily driver, weekends, garage queen?
For a daily driver, I'd get a G37 or BMW 335.
If you can afford a nice daily driver and this is a weekend car, I'd buy a used Elise for $35k.
I personally wouldn't trade my S2000 (boosted, geared, upgraded stereo) for an Elise as I like the trunk space and conservative styling of the Honda... but if the car was stolen and totaled, that's what I'd look at to replace it.
But if it was anything but a strict weekend and dry weather car, I'd think of something with a GT niche.
Someday, I'm looking to purchase a used mint 997 GT3 for the "fun car."

Fun, but you still needed to hit VTEC to feel the power and it went by to fast with the gears. After DDing s2k for 3+ years it got tired which is why I moved on. I have a DD now so looking for a weekend warrior/garage queen.
Top four are Supra TT, NSX, EVO IX and 07 STI. Will be paying full cash with it, if you know of a good deal lemme know
. No Car payments =
I agree value wise, a used s2k is the way to go.
My00-01 I've seen average 15ks now, My 03s 18s, My04 - 22ks.
Since I'm back in the market now, and with 30k to play with again, no way would I buy a new 07 s2k at 30k.
I'm not expecting to many positive replies with my opinion/outlook as this an s2k board but just my general feedback from looking at the outside again since being an owner for many years.

Get a s2k, turbo charge it, then ask yourself why you even considered any car under 100k to replace it
As for SilverKnight's choices, I had a '97 Supra TT w/ 480 hp. It was fast, but overall the S2000 was more fun in the real world. The only one of them I haven't driven is the NSX, but it would be hard to argue against an Evo from that list of choices...they're truly badass, very fun cars.

With 30K to spend total, you have lots of choices, epecially in the used car market. If I was in your shoes, I'd look real hard at the Elise.
I had 20K to put down in 06 and wanted a new car, and here I am.

I have pretty good record plus it wouldn't be a DD.Yeh I could open a lot more windows if I wanted to do put down more then 30k cash and finance some but I have other personal targets/savings to reach and put cash into besides the weekend warrior car and I don't like debt!
Elise is still a nice car but until it hits that 30k used spot.............
I am on my third S2K. Previously owned an '03, '04 and now an '06. IMO it is the best built, best handling and best value for what you get. The age of the current design is irrelevent when Honda got it right the first time. The 350Z had a few years of teething problems that frustrated owners until they got them ironed out. The Elise is strickly a track car and too freaky looking for my taste but definately exclusive. The hard top Miata is approaching $30K and is not even in the same league as an S2K. The Boxster and Z4 are it's closest competitors IMO. If you have the money for either of those cars go for it. If not, get an S2K and enjoy!

I don't know....I like my Cayman S WAY more than my old S/C'd S2000. I've driven a turbo S2000 too, and while better than the S/C'd one, it wouldn't change my answer.
Knowing that (in straight line), I'm faster then just about every car sub ~400 grand stock, makes me the love the s2k even more.
Plus track ability, rawness, convertiable, sports car feel, etc makes the s2k all the more worth it, only thing it lacks is its image ("its only a honda" crap)

turbo s2k > most cars
