Is the s2k worth the $30k price tag value?

Other cars in the general S2000 general price range:
RX8
350Z
EVO
STI
Audi TT
BMW Z4

Cars generally more or less than the S2000:
Tiburon
VW GTI
MINI Cooper S
Miata
Sky/Solstice
Mazdaspeed 6
Mustang GT
----
Audi TT
BMW Z4
SLK
Boxster
Corvette
Elise
Audi S4
M3
Cayman
Z4 M
Exige S
Etc.

Given that list - I think the S2000 is totally worth the price. An individual person might prefer other cars, but value wise I think the S2000 is right up there. Personally, I'd be interested in some seat time in the Z4 M, Cayman S and Exige S, but I have no interest in paying the purchase price for any of them. So I'll stick to my 7.5 year old S2000.

Top four are Supra TT, NSX, EVO IX and 07 STI.

Supra TT... dated styling, especially the front half of the car. Hard to find one that hasn't been thrashed. Turbo reliability on a used car? And, it's not a convertible.

NSX... You're looking at twice the price of a similar S2000. It's not a convertible. Lots of NSX owners own S2000's because they're so fun to drive.

EVO IX/WRX STi... Completely different driving experience. They're 4WD turbo 4 door sedans based on an econobox platform. Drive 'em, if you like them better than an S2000 then get one and be happy.

IMO, there is nothing appealing that competes in the convertible sports car category at the S2000 price point.

Sky and solistice turbos redline I would think are competitors that would be crossed shop.

I think the Sky looks pretty nice. Solistice on the other hand..........

If not a daily driver, then why consider an Evo or STi?

Or you could trade your daily for the Evo / Sti...

Then get a used S2000 with the rest.

Not sure why you want a 4-door AWD sedan as a weekend car/garage queen. That'd be my daily driver and the S2000 would be my weekend car.

Lets not base a car's worth solely upon how much power and straightline speed it has compared to cars that aren't even in its class.

But take an S2000 or an Elise to the Dragon and push it...

It completely blew my mind what the car was capable of... and this was in the rain, no less.

Now the RS4 has been demoted to 2nd place while I've fallen in love with the Honda again!

That'll change in the Winter and for road trips, but that's what having two cars is all about!

IMHO the only car that gave me the same ''feeling'' + open air drop top pleasure was the Porsche Boxster S.

For 30k you can get a 2003 Boxster S with glass window. Completely different car than the S2K; mid-engined, flat 6, communicative steering feel.

Try it.

IMHO: it'd be worth it to wait or pay up for an 05 Boxster S. It's a whole step up from the last gen Boxster S.
