I was just wondering what is the highest octane you can run in a stock s2 motor??

Just stick with 93AKI, any higher isn't necessary, nor will it really benefit a stock motor.

I have heard of people running 100 octane before (appreantly some stations in Cali carry it). They reported minimal gains. I would think the higher the better, as it would be a more controlled ignition. Only problem I have heard of has been going the other way (what is the LOWEST I can go?). Going lower promotes detonation, and the ECU retards timing to prevent this. I think the ECU will compensate regardless of octane (whether you go up or down). The owner's manual says nothing about max octane.....just says you should keep it at 91 or higher.

Most of this is here-say, so someone may want to confirm this.

as long as its 91/93 (depending on the sate) and higher, you are fine.

higher octane doesnt give you horsepower. it just resists knock. and allows timing to be normal (or slightly advanced for higher octane.... with tuning ofcourse)

but most people have the conseption that high octane gives you more power... it doesnt

Run too high of an octane or a unwise mixed fuel and you can put undue stress on you powertrain because of the increased heat produced from higher octane fuels. Plus all the polution from the unburnt fuel. The fuel system is only SO effiecient.

increasing you octane when it is not needed is a waste of money. It will not give you any power and it can do damage. O2 sensors are not cheap...

Four threads down from this one:

Expensive Gas - Does the s2000 HAVE to have it?

No need to repeat the same discussions all over again.

But, but, I wanna start a big controversy in this one too!!!

Seriously though, isn't this asking for the highest safe octane, not the lowest? I thought because higher octane allows you to have higher compression ratios, it would help you if you are running at extremely high psi's...

And it would make sense that if you aren't running extremely high psi's like it said above I think it would put the engine under a bit more stress.
