i thought higher octane was just better for not having to worry about detonation and things of that nature....not really for power.

i believe our cars will not benefit from anything higher than 91/93 octane unless you are running ems or aftermarket ecu.

Naw, you'll notice it by the end of the tank. With the crap gas we have, the ECU has to pull timing so, you don't see full HP. With 100 octane it doesn't have to pull the timing but, it also has to learn you have that gas in it.

Is it worth it? On the track it is. On the street it's just pissing money away. I run 100 in my track car so, the ECU doesn't unlearn the octane.

I've been told that our ecus will pull timing but won't add. Which would mean that higher octane gas is useless.

Anything more than a mouthful is a waste.

Right but, with our crappy gas, we're running in a perpetual state of "pulled timing". I'm depending on my butt dyno so, I might be wrong but, I can pull down car's with the 100 octane I can't without. I don't really need 100, 95-98 is probably fine but, 100 and 103 is the most commonly found. You can also mix 50/50 and make 98 easily enough.

If I wasn't tracking the car, I wouldn't do it. The higher the octane, the higher the propensity for leaving deposits on the valves. I just run BG44K throught the engine more often than they recommend to keep the deposits down.
