Now on to some pics. I used these to convince my family that the S was a safe car.
I don't know why really - without knowing the actual cause and nature/physics of those accidents you can't really use them to compare. The Miata looks like it may have slid under something, I doubt the S would fare much better. The Soltice is another tough one to tell, it looks like it is in decent shape and was a simple rollover but who knows what the other side and front of the vehicle looks like? The NFR looks to have taken the worse beating out of all of them IIRC it was a rollover down a hill and into bushes? But may have rolled once and then stayed upright the remainder. The GPW looks like it just got picked up and gently set back down on its top

Wow...just wow.

OP, get you an S. It's fun, it's fast...and it'll make you a man.

It is a car, not this uncontrollable fiery god-chariot these others try to make it out to be.

Besides, you can always rely on the VSA. I hear it's a life-saver.
I imagine a young driver? I disagree with each line. Still, I wish there was a car that would make one a man...
Nope...unless you consider late twenties young. :dunno:

I just find it funny how so many of the owners of this car sensationalize the S2000's characteristics.

You guys are almost as bad as NSX owners. ...almost.

Gonna skip reading all of the posts. I got an s2000 when I was 17, yeah people on here are going to hate, and yeah they have a reason to.
Any time you put the gas pedal down more than you're supposed to you can expect the tail to whip out, I can't even explain the one time I did a 180º turn, I was having fun with a lexus that cut me off to go slow as hell, so I sped around it, and I lost control mid-lane change, maybe a road turtle hit the rear end out? I totally can't explain it because it was not a sharp turn, I managed to land right by an opening in the middle road barrier and drove on the other side of traffic since it was 100% clear and just kept driving like I meant to do it to get out of traffic. I haven't had anything like that happen in 2 years since then. If I lose the rear end I am usually messing around and have fun with it and know how to correct it, like last weekend it was barely wet on the road and I took a turn at 30 and the rear end slid and I made a power slide out of it because I was aiming for the far left lane anyways.
I've gotten speed out of my system, the s2000 is a major temptation, if you put your foot down, you can expect stuff to go badly, if you ever want to floor it, find a local drag strip event, they sometimes have $20 for all you want to drag.
You said you haven't driven for a year, my parents made me agree to drive their suv automatic for a year before I got a manual, good stuff. Learning stick is a distraction on top of getting used to driving, they're two things that become second hand nature with time, but together they can be a hard combination, people won't comprehend what the concept of stalling out is if you do it on the street, especially in a turn lane. I spent the first 3 weeks owning my car starting to drive with my brother who owned a manual 300zx in the school huge parking lot right behind my house, then driving through my neighborhood to 2 over and back to get used to going from a stop to start without stalling on stop signs and red lights, red lights make you nervous because you don't want to stall out in front of a non-understanding jerk who is going to honk at you until you move.
Anyways here's the reasons
Safety
For
1) 5 star side 4 star front
2) I believe there is a steel bar running through the front windshield pillars, reinforcing it as someone pointed out, in a rollover, it keeps its form and doesn't let the road flatten the crap out of you
3) Comes with Roll Bars in the event of going for a tumble off road
4) Its amazing how people survive wrecks on this forum in this car
Against
1) No Side air bags like a lot of current cars

Reasons
For
1) Its a car that should require maturity, you chose it over a Ford Mustang, hopefully you are a beginner car enthusiast who will maintain the car, wash it regularly, do his own oil etc. etc., it's scary letting people touch our low cars
2) Its an extremely fun car
3) The heater is a-mazing, put on a jacket and a beanie, and you're good to go in 30º, let the stare begin
4) Good gas mileage
5) There seems to be more good mods for this car than ricer body kits

Against
1) Tail happy, you have to fight the urge to have a lead foot
2) High maintenance costs, tires cost about 400-750 and the rear burn faster
3) A lot of people dislike manuals (I friggin love it and wish they weren't discontinuing them, I like saving $1,000 on a car to have more fun with it.)
4) You are inevitably going to be a youngin' in it, every civic on every street corner wants to race you, and you have to fight the urge, until you're to the point where I'm at and you just laugh your ass off at their rice, and get more joy actually just ignoring them. Friends will encourage you to get into dangerous situations. Peer pressure sucks until you're just like w/e, I have a car with four wheel and it drives, and on top of that it rocks and I want it to last the next 30 years
5) Only takes premium gas

The Miata and Solstice don't have integral roll hoops and their windshield isn't reinforced with tubular steel to withstand rollover. It's in the design specs.

The Solstice was at the Dragon and gently caught an inside tire on the mountain and did just "flop" onto it's side. That was the aftermath. The driver was a small woman and luckily she slide down in the seat rather than having her head taken off.

I'm 20... I have driven a bunch of fast cars. I was really stupid and I still have a lot to learn.

2 things in my book slow you down the most.

A) A bad accident (even if it wasn't your fault...)
B) Speeding tickets and getting your license F*cked for the next 7 years (points close to suspension).

A million people on this site, and around you will tell you that you shouldn't drive fast but a person learns from experience.

Just take it slow and don't do anything too stupid on the streets. I guess that's the best opinion I could give. Remember this... It's not just you on the road, other people too with little kids and crap in the car... I'd feel like shit if I was doing something stupid and something happened to someone else let alone myself.
