my S is completely stock and I find sand in the airbox all the time, especially during the winter. No problems so far.

I can't seem to stress this enough. Sand in the AIRBOX is fine and normal. Heck, you can have a whole beach in there and it's just house keeping to suck it out. Sand "upstream" of the filter, in the intake tube just before the throttle body is NOT. This means it's getting past the filter.

directed at me? yes I know, I was simply validating the obvious statements you made before that indeed, sand in the airbox is not a problem

OK, OK, I'll admit I am a dummy ---- but exactly what is an arc air box? I've strangely never heard of such a thing. It would seem that the design of this box would have much to do with the correct answer to your question.

Thanks,
Richard

Are you suggesting that the sand in the air box is due to a design flaw in the box itself?

That somehow airflow dead spots allow the sand to accumulate to levels beyond tolerances, or perhaps that there is not a pre-filter component that scrubs the air prior to entry into the air box before striking the regular air filter?

Did sand get beyond the air filter? I thought we had finally settled on the notion that it had not.

I wish to correct the use of one term "upstream". I should be more careful about using words like this. "Upstream" is actually INCORRECT. In an engine intake system, the area that the air goes to after it passes through the filter on its way to the engine is "DOWNSTREAM". Sorry for any confusion, but I think most of you got the idea.

Are you addressing me, and my post above? If so, the answer to your question is no, I'm not suggesting anything, except the fact that I am totally ignorant about the workings of the arc. I'd like to try to help by answering your question, but unless I learn more about the arc box, I can't give an informed opinion.

Thanks,
Richard

Thanks, xviper, but I'm still a dummy about how this thing works. Frankly, I never saw anything like it before. At what point does the air enter the air box? And is the filter mounted inside the box (like stock) or is the filter that black, flat area on top of the box?

Thanks,
Richard
