I just joined a thing called Carclub...it is $6 a month, but you get a Credit Card you can use to buy $200 gas account for $180 (refill it as often as you like) - this is a 10% savings, less the monthly fee - it also gets you discounts at JC Whitney, up to $500 deductible reimbursement for collisions, mapping services, emergency technical help and "I'm Lost" assistance (no towing or AAA services though)

Just an idea if the $1.50 gas is freaking you out, and having to buy Ultimate (91+ Octane) all the time HURTS! You can use this at ANY gas station, but only on gas purchases (not snacks and such)...works like a Mater Card or Visa

Wow! That'll be so handy if you're ever out of cash and are desperate for a cup of coffee. (Too bad you won't be able to afford a doughnut. )

....or you could give the card to your wife, and tell her to go on a shopping spree!

 

Let's see, I spend about $60/mo. on gas. That means I would save $6, so with the $6 fee I break even. What a deal!. Remends me of an ad I heard yesterday on the radio. Some outfit lets you pay your income tax bill with a credit card and receive frequest flyer miles. Seems all it costs you is a "one time convenience fee of 2.5%". Since air miles are usually worth about 1.5 cents/mile, you only lose 1%!

 

Speaking of gasoline, have the prices jumped recently in other areas of the country? I don't mean a few cents here and there, but like 20 cents in a few days, at the same station. Monday I paid $1.58 for premium, on Wednesday it jumped to $1.68, and the next day it was $1.78. (Amoco, north suburbs, Chicago.) Is this just the beginning on its way to $2.50 during the peak summer driving season?? Just my observation.

 

You guys got it good. In Frisco (San Francisco) the gas is upwards to $2.20 for 92 octane. Absolutely sucks. Latez!

 

$60 a month in gas - sheesh! I was wish all my cars could eat for that little...I only work 4 miles from my house, but I get out enough to spend closer to $150 a month in gas. Regardless, looks like simple math shows it would benefit only those interested in the deductible coverage, the tech help, and who spend a little more on gasoline =)

Gas here is $1.42/gal 93 Ultimate as Amoco...now, the rest of Virginia is a little higher, I believe!

 

what about using regular gas (87 octane) instead of Honda recommended premium fuel. Anyone tried that ? Any ill side effects?

 

S2SaV - I thought we had it bad down here (LA county) until I came across your post. Prices I've see around town $1.80 for 92.

mister_two - wouldn't suggest trying, probably wouldn't notice anything for a while, but by the time you do - too late.

andrewewing - $60/mo - I drop that much everytime I fill up my burb (3+ times/mo).

 

If you can't afford the gas you probably can't afford the car.
