Buying a performance car and worrying about the gas is just plain stupid.

I seem to be the only person that at 7K miles still gets only 27 mpg in my Fit... Dont think I have beaten 17 mpg in any of my S2000's. Got 14 mpg average in my Sti and 17 mpg in my IS350.

The new, stock S2000 gets the best gas mileage out of all our cars.

I get about 5 mpg in our other one.

If you're really worried about money, buy a stripped Yaris for $10k instead. Or just about anything for $10k, for that matter. Or a bicycle and a condo with a short commute.

I have a Civic as a DD....haven't gotten below 32 mpg in 8 tanks....therefore, I drive the snot out of my S2000 when I get it out of my garage. MPG in the S2000 is of little consequence...

I shift at 2K in heavy traffic. 2.5-3K in suburbia. No reason to spin any higher just to spend more time at the next light. I always maximize coasting in gear. I often don't touch the brakes until the engine is near idle. These things are just basic driving technique in town, IMO.

On the backroads or the freeway on-ramps, it's redline in every gear.

Over the course of 4 months my car averaged 26MPG. I would always top off around 11 Gallons and fill around 280-320 depending on how much freeway cruising I did.

I would MUCH rather get 26MPG in a more enjoyable car to drive like the S2000 vs. 32MPG in a plain jane Civic that would bore me to death during a commute.
