It's your car. Your wallet. Do what you want with it. Let others do the same (i.e. whatever they want).

I find it very odd that some find the very idea of saving gas "sick", "practically disgust[ing]", and "stupid".
Ah! Ah! A normal person! Flee, FLEE!

To each his own

Not sure how this became a "post your MPG and shift point thread", get out of here all of you normal people! How about smiles per gallon? Or screams (from passengers) per gallon?

I don't know how you shift at 2K RPM because I've found anything below 2K and the car bogs really bad/or you have no power what so ever in the next gear. I find shifting at 3K RPM for daily driving to be good.

There are people on the board claiming to be shifting at 4500/5000 RPM all the time. Why I have no idea.
Well, it's an AP2, so if your's is an AP1, it might be tough to shift that low. If I'm shifting that low, I'm not trying to jet forward. Power is usually adequate to keep up with traffic. It does bog a bit and it makes for a lot of shifting, but that it where you get the best mileage.

If I'm climbing a hill, I may have to shift higher in order to get enough power in the next gear. On level ground, the AP2 will pull from 1500 RPM or so as long as you are patient, especially in the lower gears. I'm in sixth by ~33 MPH or so.

But like I said, that's only when I'm stuck in traffic or not in a hurry. Give me some twisties and the RPM's never drop below 5,000. I love the dual-personality of the S2000's engine.

To each his own, indeed

At the track, I'm at 9 - 11/10ths all the time.
Frankly, most people who *think* they're driving fast on the street are down around 6/10ths (except when they screw up).
To me, I may as well be driving at 2-3/10ths as at 6/10ths.

You simply cannot push it to the absolute limit on the street like you can at the track.
So, I'd just as soon piddle around below 4500rpm and get 28mpg rather than vtec all the time and get 18mpg, possibly frightening my passenger and pissing off surrounding traffic, all the while knowing that I'm not *really* going fast.

The car is fun to drive on the street without ever getting into VTEC as far as I'm concerned. Getting over 300 miles per tank, I get PLENTY of smiles/gallon

Buying a performance car and worrying about the gas is just plain stupid.

I concur, however I get abour 23 city and on my last road trip I got 33mpg hwy and that was doing between 70-102 all the way.

Ive been amazed at how much more usable torque my new AP2 has over my Ap1's. I didn't think it would e this noticeable. Meaning specifically being "stuck" at a lower RPM and being able to accelerate without shifting all the time. I've been very happy about this.

Shifting is part of the fun for me. *snick *snick And also its the rapid change in acceleration (horizontal or longitudinal) that I personally enjoy, not the amount of available torque. A quick snap left or right; or a matched clutch dump into Vtec at even slow speeds gets me smiling every time.
