Default Saw vid where pro shifted at rev limiter every time - bad?

Someone posted a vid last week that showed a couple fo pros racing in Japan. The guy with the S2K won [of course : ) ]

When he was upshifting...he would jsut stomp on the gas until he hit the rev limiter, and then engage the clutch.

In a stock S, is there any reason why we shouldn't do the same thing assuming no clutch drops?

Well, bouncing off the rev limiter will most likely slow you down. When driving hard I will shift AT redline, but not wait for the rev limiter to kick in. When the rev limiter kicks in the engine "hesitates." Doing this on every shift would make the time you are not accelerating longer.

Sounds more this this "pro" driver was just unfamiliar with the car and the shift points.

that video was the amuse s2000 and i dont think he was actually hitting the rev limiter... that ecu is tuned to raise the redline on that car so when you saw the red 9k flash, that car actually had some more room til the rev limiter was hit.

i guess the amuse s2000 uses the red flash as the shift light?

I think what he was asking is, is it ok to leave your foot on the gas to the floor in between quick, hard, shifts. i am not shure about this one. Is that called power shifting or something?

leaving your foot on the gas during shifts is called "power shifting" yes, not very good for your motor but it gives a faster shift.

I normally let the redline flash once and then shift and stomp back on the gas when going for spirited drive.

You don't hit the limiter until after 4/5 flashes - it takes practice to get it right though. The guys in the Amuse S2000 change up as soon as the redline flashes - they are missing the limiter by a split second or so.

First time I hit the rev limiter today. It definitely slows you up. It kinda caught me by suprise. I was driving with the lights on (dusk) and the sun was in front of me. Between the sun's glare and the dimmed display panel (lights on), I hit the rev limiter. Don't ever want to do that again
