Holy Crist Dong!!
50% tread, 50% life, 50% whatever. How many miles did you seriously expect out of used race tires? Hell brand new these tires wouldnt even last 10k on the street. Thats like 2 oil changes. Come on man be serious. 50% worn is still MAYBE one oil change before you need new tires.
You bought race tires. USED race tires at that, Which still have use where they are intended on THE RACE TRACK.
Obviously if you plan on mounting new tires then you wont have to pay the dismounting fee. If you dont want the tires send them back to Chris and be done with it, otherwise burn them to the cords while having fun @ a track event and enjoy your $200 bucks of grip.
If you dont understand what you bought then well thats a shame. Unfortunately you may have assumed that you could use these race tires on the street. I have bought Used R comound tires and they sure as hell looked bald, but i got PLENTY of use of of them @ the tail of the Dragon.

You guys would be surprised what CC companies do when you dispute. I recently bought a home theater subwoofer online. The place had a 100% satisfaction guarantee posted. When I received the unit it was terrible. I contacted them and complained and they refused to do anything for me. I disputed the charge and within a month I had a full refund and never shipped it back. Still sitting in my garage right now.
I would think the CC company would easily side with the buyer in this case. One look at the photos(race tires or not) is all it will take.

All were simple and easy.
You explain how you did not get the good or service promised.
They chargeback the payment.
The vendor has 30 days or so to provide proof to the CC company that the good or service was provided as advertised.
If the vendor misses this date, or does not respond, the chargeback is permanent.
If the vendor does respond with a note in writing or and advert, or signed contract with 'proof' then the CC company will contact you again for rebuttal.
At that point, you send in the photo.
Chargeback becomes permanent.
Do it. It also harms the vendors' standing with the CC company as they can be charged a higher vig on transactions (or lose their account completely) based on excessive chargeback activity.
After that, wait for the vendor to contact you demanding their money. Send them the money just for the items not in dispute. Do not send them money for the bad tires or shipping costs related to those tires.
The vendor will have to take legal action for the balance. It ain't worth his time, he will lose.
So, two outcomes:
1) you got yourself some free project tires
2) the vendor ponies up and sends you shipping money
Either way you win.
Do it.
You know, SoS has offered to refund the 200 for the tires and cover the return shipping. The OP is now sweeting him over the tire removal fee. That IMHO is out of line. The OP has to have tires installed to use these rims, and any tire dealer will remove and install tire for asame price as just remove or install.
If you take the time to read all of the OP comments, in all three threads, you will see that the OP did not really understand what he was buying and what they could be used for. Anyone buying a used set of race tire for any reason other then the track does not know what they are doing. I think that was the OP mistake and SoS is willing to cover the costs.
I just don't see WTF the OP is issue is any longer.

I agree that the vendor need not cover mounting fees.
BUT, the vendor should cover ALL shipping.
My understanding his he is offering only to cover the return shipping.
The delivery shipping should also be refunded.
If the vendor covered the item cost and all shipping, then that would be a reasonable offer.
The seller is still losing here with his time and energy dealing with this fiasco.
If a customer orders a steak and the vendor sends a chicken, the customer should be held harmless for costs (both shipping and item costs).

Remember this was more of a personal transaction than a vendor to customer transaction. The seller just happened to be a vendor too.
The bottom line as I see it, the OP wanted the rims and thought he could use the tires that came on the rims on the street. h was told they were used and had about 50% life/tread left. If you know Toyo RA-1s at all, you know they are slicks almost at 50%. The buyer got them and they were not what he expected. Personally I think he though they were like street tires and 50% meant something else to him. When he got the tire, he was suprised. I bet if the tires were new and shaved to 4/32 he would have had the same problem. He should have never thought he could run track tires on the street in the SF CA part of the country.
Everyone wants to blame SoS here for the deal. They posted better pictures of the tires than the OP did. The tire the OP posted is the worste of the lot. They were worth the price he paid, easy.
It is still my personal assessment that the omission of pictures by an experienced business person -- of tires admittedly evaluated subjectively -- is either negligent or deceptive. These so-called race tire connoisseurs need to recognize the reasonable expectation of tires having treads considering the way they were described. Whatever special definition that such description would carry for a very limited group of people does not preclude the general and widely accepted expectations of the OP. With that said, why anybody would side with the opinion that the buyer needs to incur additional expenses due to a poor and curiously convenient definition of a given seller is beyond me. Furthermore, judging by the length of the thread and the reasonably modest demands of the buyer, I find the seller
To all, if you are going to comment on this thread, please find and read all three threads by the OP and the Seller thread.
Ruprecht, Yes, I would want to return the set. But you have to give SoS this, they offered to pay to have the tire returned to them and refund the price the OP paid. I thought that was more than fair. That was not good enough for the OP. He wanted to be paid to remove the tires from the rims. Since he will have to pay to have tires installed and removal is net free, that is a bit over the top.
Hell the OP could sell that set for 300 easy locally and call it a day. But instead he started three threads, basically draging the vendors name through the mud in the process. He did not even talk to the seller before posting them either.
Guld, the seller did have pictures posted in the FS thread. He deleted the text and replaced the text with "Sold to Dong" on the date payment by the OP was made. It is common for that kind of edit to happen. Personally I like to text inplace until for a record of the transaction. This is a perfect reason why.
You also wrote "opinion that the buyer needs to incur additional expenses due" No one is saying that at all. I belive had he bought just the rims and installed tires, he will be net the same. Tire shops charge a fee to remove tires from the rims, or install tires. They don't charge twice. The OP wants to be paid to remove the tire.
Tire and rims 2300 shipped
Rims only 2100 shipped
Return the tires with pre-poaid shipped, refund 200.
What else does he want? Pain and suffering?
