Scotch Guarding the Top?
Naw, I'm pretty sure that it said the new Honda hardtops can be retrofitted to the '00 models and that they did it because the '00s leak sometimes. I think it was in an AutoWeek article. Mind you, this article came out when the Honda hardtops were new . . .
Yes, regular car soap with a brush works great. But whatever you do, do not use armorall - it will whiten over time!

I use the Porsche wash and the protectant. Works great. The wash gets it nice and black while the protectant makes the top bead when wet. With the protectant it seems to dry faster because the water doesn't soak into the top so well. Which means you can drop the top quicker after a rain or wash.
I used Scotchgaurd on my top about a month after I got it (late Jan). Seems fine, I didn't put it on because of the water resistance, but because I thought it would make it easier to clean. I've got nothing to compare it to, but it cleans off pretty well.
Acually, now that I know about it, I'd probably just use the Porche stuff since thats what it was made for.
