when you install the mcgard bolts, i think its a good idea to make a small mark or hide a piece of paper with your vin or your name somewhere in the cushion or use touch up paint/ or marker to mark underneath the seats or the rails.

i think honda should come up with a vin etched/numbered seats or something

Thanks for the suggestions so far. Why I want to sell the car? I never heard about anybody stealing seats except for the S2000. Problem seems to be that you can put these seats in cheaper models. Just want to get out of Honda I guess. It is a great car (probably one of greatest I will ever own), but it is not worth the hassle. I will settle for a Boxter or maybe the new Z4.

Keep up with the suggestions. Appreciated.

Have you been parking the car with the top down when this has happened? That's always a little more inviting to the theives. Why not invest in an alarm with a proximity sensor? Some unique bolts like some socket head cap screws with some permenant Loc-Tite would definately make it difficult for anyone trying to steal the seats. For a crime to be successful, the criminal wants minimum attention, and minimum time spent pulling off the job. Do your best to increase both of these. When the thief doesn't have a damn 18mm head allen key with him, and the alarm is screaming in his ear, he will run... you will have your seats.

I would bet that the seats for sale on the houston-imports site are stolen, and yours are probably one of the sets.

What I would do is to remove the seat back leather and have your initials embroidered on the front surface just below the headrest.)

Did they slash your top? I have a 2000 soft top cloth and frame for sale if you need a replacement. I'm in Houston.

For those of you who where asking ....

The car was supposed to be in a garage, if the property management would not have double-leased the garage. Irony, but the night before they blocked my remote (guess the other guy complained, as he must have paid 100 bucks amonth as well) and I had no choice but to park it open air. Note however that is was parked basically in front of all the front doors of my building. Not more than 10 feet away, well lighted, etc. Same as last time. I guess this time I have enough grounds to go after the property management for liability since I was leasing a garage that I could not use.

It was parked with the top up (closed) of course, but cutting it up seems easy to do. As disabling teh OEM alarm. And the lock-tite and specials bolts, the airbag and whole steering wheel is equipped with special glued screws, but that did not stop them. Last time they came with regular tools as they messed up the whole thing (but did not get it off), this time they were better equipped. Hence my lack of confort with the seat lock solution. I bet they have that too.

See, I am in a no win situation. All I can do is make a deal with the property management since they were at fault, but that is going to be it.

Question: since the price of "aftermarket" S2000 seats is low compared to new seats and they are immediately available, has anybody experience with replacing them with these and have the insurance pay for it? I terribly hate to buy my own stolen seats (or someone else's for that matter), but there are indeed quite a few S2000 seats available in the Houston area and this would get me at least my car back in a matter of weeks as opposed to months. I just wonder how Houston can have so many seats available for sale...

Again .. appreciate any advise.

That's just is not right, I've heard (my husband was SF (special forces) ) that you can rig a wire from the battery I think to the car body. So if anyone touches your car it would really light them up. Just an idea.
Maybe set up a video camera. People are catching all kinds of crimes on tape, and a monitor in the house. I have one at my front door.
That really bites, good luck!!

Question: I know the ID#'s are all over the car, are they on the seats as well??

Have the insurance company cut you a check for new seats, then buy used ones and keep the difference for your trouble.

"I just wonder how Houston can have so many seats available for sale... "

Because they're being stolen from owners like you and people with these web sites are not asking questions about stolen goods. It's just Ebay at the local level --the crooks are everywhere.
