I agree with you. Where there is a will there is a way. So unless these seat bolts are only sold from Kodokan_4 then they are just a deterent for amatures. A for profit thief would find a way to acquire the seat lock key or a way around it if his paycheck depended on it.

Maybe we could see what detective is assigned to the case and tell him about the internet board that is selling seats. I would contact my insurances investigator and let them know. I think insurance company would like to find out more even if the cops don't.

Let me try to answer this so Kodokan_4 doesn't have to.

Kodokan_4 only sale the seat lock to registered owners of this board.

I bet they have that too.
The airbag DOES NOT come with special bolts. The airbag bolts are standard torx bolts, and the driver is available at Sears, or any hardware store. In addition, there is only removeable Loctite on the airbag screws to keep them from vibrating loose.

The steering wheel also DOES NOT come with a special bolt. It is a standard hex head bolt, no Loctite either.

It takes less time to remove the airbag AND steering wheel, than it does to remove one seat! -I know because I have done it.

What is to stop a thief from using a self tap metal drill bit,

Pete
I know you have been keeping up with the sales of these McGard locks and that you say that only registered owners are able to buy them..but what about Radred?
He's the first poster on the 4th page
https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...83&pagenumber=4

I am not doubting anyone and whether or not they own an S, but you did say only owners could purchase them and he is showing as an enthusiast. There are others on there too who are showing as enthusiasts. (I can vouch for Drop Top, however, as an owner showing as an enthusiast)

Btw, did you receive my check yet?
Thanks

DVDoughboy-

I have turned down many requests for McGard Seat Lock sets from people who are not, or could not prove that they are, S2000 owners.

radred is the proud owner of a red '00 S2000, purchased in August of '01. This can be verified by contacting members of the Carolinas' S2000 Owners group. I checked him out prior to allowing him into the group buy.

There are a couple of owners in the group buy who have chosen not to enter their VIN to get the "owner" status, but they have proved their ownership. I have also contacted the Site Director who has verified owner status on certain people for me, when I was uncertain.

I received your payment yesterday. Your order will go out Wednesday. Contact me anytime if you have more questions.

Ahhh now that makes PERFECT sense. The lock pattern is the key and it looks like it is under control. Can you get similar items for other thing in the car like the steering wheel?

S2K_LA-

Currently I am working on a presentation package for the McGard rep. I am now attempting to have locks custom made for the driver's airbag, and the steering wheel. As with the seats, these items are also being stolen at a high rate.

My motivation for these projects is that I will be in anesthesia school for 2 years, beginning in August 2003, and I MUST have reliable transportation for the entire time. I have to drive to hospitals all over Southern California for the program, and if I miss more than a day or two, I'm out! If my seats or steering wheel get stolen, it will mean big problems for me.

The only way I can get these locks for myself is to buy a minimum order, and because they are custom made, they are quite expensive. That is how the seat lock group buy got started. I think it is practically a miracle that I was able to talk McGard into giving me an exclusive contract for this stuff!

Back on the road ... had a nice vtec Saturday today ... it was worth the wait.

Interior brand new again .... BUT seats marked at several places and pictures on file with HPD ... just in case. Car has been equipped with alarm as well ... just in case. Oh boy if that thing goes of in the middle of the night, those suggestion above got me inspired ... whomever messes with the car is not going to be in for a pleasure ride; I have had enough of crap.
