It's obvious, you didn't do enough research.
Sure!

Did not expect that Porsche Marketing is that good!

Its the same way as the Z4 roadster and coupe are the same car!

Of coarse the coupe is more rigid! It has a solid top! What do you expect? Yeah that may result better handling than the open one! But so what?

It just make a very good car, better!

Porsche managed to market the BOXSTER COUPE as a different line! And it seems that its marketing worked really well.

There's nothing wrong with the Cayman that a GT3 engine swap wouldn't fix...

2005-2007 Boxster S:

RUF offers a 3.8 liter 997 Carrera S Engine Conversion for the 2005-2006 Boxster S. Each conversion includes a crate motor from Porsche, complete RUF exhaust (headers, sport cats, muffler), RUF air intake, RUF tuned 997 ECU, all necessary wiring, hardware and labor.

The RUF 3.8 liter Boxster S conversion will yield 365hp and has the same reliability and maintenance intervals as a RUF 3800S and 997 Carrera

They have a new Boxster coming out in 2009 as a 2010 model. I saw a rendering of it and it looks really good.

Wow, Porsche is going to give it's customers two model changes while the S2000 just gets older and older. It sucks to be us.

a gt3 engine is not an easy swap, unlike the milder 911 variants. Isnt it ironic that those most critical of the CS' power tend to be those that haven't driven one? I love my CS as is, and it's nowhere near the fastest car I've owned.

My cousin has a 2006 BS. It's a great car and definitely a step up from the s2000 in terms of comfort, handling, and braking. MR > FR

CS is in my future, I love that thing.

not the best logic... but nonetheless, the boxster S is definitely not the same as a Cayman S i forgot where i read it up (probably wikipedia) but the boxster is the entry level porche, and the Cayman is supposed to be the successor of the "Sports Car Level" Porche, which contained the likes of the 944 Turbo
I'm sorry, this is one of the dumber things I've read on S2ki lately.

What you are essentially saying is that if the Boxster was $5k more than the Cayman, instead of vice versa, that the Cayman would be the entry level Porsche, and the Boxster would be the continuation of the line? Come on man.

They are both great cars, but a Cayman essentially IS a Boxster with a roof, and has all the advantages of the roof. Just like a 911 Coupe is a 911 Cab with a roof, and the 911 coupe is a little faster and handles a little better; it doesn't make it a significantly different car, it just proves the basic characteristics of open car versus closed coupe.

Anyway, I love both the Boxster and the Cayman, but since convertible is a must for me, just like the OP, I'd stick with the Boxster, and the BS is one of the few cars I'd trade my S for.

Congrats on the purchase, Jeci.

My wife really wants a Boxster S.

But I don't want to trade in my SC S2k for one.
