A friend of mine has a 00' Mustang GT convertible. He is constantly saying how he will kill the S2000. Saying remarks as like, "Piece of $h1+ 4 Banger" Well a friedn of mine has a white S2000 and the guy with the GT said have you beaten any GT's? and the guy replied "I beat a Saleen on the freeway at a rolling start of about 60-70" So GT boy is like "bullshit" ... the guy with the s2000 had about 5 witnesses and they all say he killed the saleen. the s2k has few mods, Bridgestone's, RM Racing parts.. exhaust, intake... So my question really is... How many people has ran a Mustang GT?... and what was the outcome?.. thanks for all the feedback.

P.S. I always say we'll settle this once and for all when i
get mine.

joe.

I haven't run against a Mustang of any flavor, except on a road course and I've done pretty well against them there despite my relative inexperience. However, I would think that from a rolling start we would do well against most cars. Think about it. We SUCK off the line and yet our car is still capable of running a flat 14 second 1/4 mile, or even in the 13's on occasion. That's in spite of sucking off the line. Once our car is going and into VTEC it flies. Throw in handling and you've got one of the best designed cars of all time. And handling is not a word you usually use in conjunction with the word Mustang.

Disclaimer: I DO like Mustangs. I'd love to have one as my daily driver with the S2K for playing in the canyons on weekends.

Driven well the S2000 will beat a Mustang GT. If you go from the hole you need to do a 6000 rpm sidestep launch. Better off punching from a roll.

Camaro Z28 or SS will be a much tougher match.

Yeah, Mustangs are great cars. The other night I exited the freeway into a traffic jam caused by . . . you guessed it, a Mustang. It was brand new (still had dealer tags), had stalled and the guy was grinding on it like a by-god. I bet it was really fast, though.

I've heard in other boards that, among the Mustangs, the S2000 can take out all but the Cobra - in the Cobra, it's going to be a close call or something like that.
Of course there are also those who say they can take out Cobras easily.
Oh, and by the way, I don't believe you want to settle it "once you get yours". Get yours, break it in, then settle the issue

I'm not into street racing, but shortly after break-in I was instigated into some roll-on "contests" against a new Mustang GT convertible w/ a really loud aftermarket exhaust and who knows what else. Beat him by a length or two 3 times in a row...the Rustang's driver just didn't know when to give up!

I would say it would depend on the driver and the model year of the Mustang. Pre '96 Mustangs (with the 5.0) were slower than the newer current 4.6 Liter Mustangs. I had a 95 Mustang GT (loved the way it sounded) and according to most Mags would run 0-60MPH in 6.5 secs. However, the newer Mustangs, according to Motor Trend (May 2001) runs 0-60MPH in 5.4 sec vs. our Stooks at 5.2 secs. So, you are looking at a close call. Also, realize that convertibles are ALWAYS slower than their hardtop brothers. So, a Mustang GT convertible is probably a full second slower to 60 than our cars. This would mean you should be able to blow the doors off the convertibles. Now figure this, on a track you would kill any Mustang! Again, according to the May 2001 issue of Motor Trend our cars out accelerate the Ferrari 360 Modena's and Ferrari 550 Maranello's in the Slalom. We also brake faster from 60MPH than both of these cars. That's right, come on Ferrari's!! We'll take you! Hee Hee! Well, there you have it.....

I am assuming we are talking straight line racing.

The new mustang GTs are a very close match to the s2k.
The mustang is easier to launch and get decent times out of. The s2k driver has to be better then average or the mustang driver not so good for the s2k to pull away. At higher speeds the s2k has the advantage though. At stop light type races, i consider them even.

On another note, your friends is a convertible so it is heavier, probably about a 100 pounds at least, also it has a higher Coefficient of Drag, all convertibles do.

So.
1. It will be slower by about two or three car lengths on the 1/4 mile.

2. It will be even slower on the top end.

This doesn't really change the outlook of the race though, i still think better driver wins, they are that close.

I've never raced a GT, but I raced a Saleen on the highway from a rolling start at about 60 mph-110 mph (yes completely empty) and it pulled about 1 1/2 car lengths in that span. I'd be surprised if an S2000 beat a Saleen, but then again it might have been a poor driver.

From a rolling start the Mustang Cobra will pull away easilly. Same applies to Vette Z-O6. The stook is no match in a straight line and the 'O6 can take it on the twisties too.
