Settle this Race
I had a 2000 4.6 Mustang GT convertible for 15 months while also owning my S2000. The GT was an automatic. (Got rid of it for a Toyota 4Runner, no rattles) Running the two side by side, the GT would beat the S2000 out of the hole (as you would expect) but at around Vtec in second, the S2000 passed the GT and stayed ahead forevermore. Since you asked about exactly what I owned, there's your answer, and if your friend was talking about the first eighth of a mile, he was telling the truth. Any longer race and he's pulling your leg.

From a rolling start the Mustang Cobra will pull away easilly. Same applies to Vette Z-O6. The stook is no match in a straight line and the 'O6 can take it on the twisties too.

In possession of both a new 99 Mustang GT (not convertible (convertible is slower), and a manual (automatic is slower)) and 2000 S2K, both run very well against one another. Clearly the Mustang GT takes it off the line momentarily (due to s2K's low torque), but in any competitive runs, top speeds, acceleration, and handling (including top end handling) have been equivalent (note the s2000 "feels" as if it handling is better, but both pull about the same "g"). Note, I can drive the Mustang GT very well

I know its faster, but will the Z06 really handle twisties better than our car? [/B]

Regardless of what the #'s say, Mustangs and Camaros just don't feel as good b/c of the live axle (ex. Cobras) and addtl. mass. Haven't driven a Z06, but enough time in a modified C5 leads me to believe it will easily out-handle the S2K. The S2K is not even in the same league acceleration-wise as a regular C5, much less a Z06.
