SEV Power - Are we overlooking something in the US?
Unless I slept through more school than I thought, ionizing air causes free O particles and O2 particles to combine, creating O3 more commonly known as ozone. This is pretty much the exact opposite of what the papers claim the SEV does. If they can't even keep their chemistry srtaight... What an absolute crock of crap...
I think it would be interesting to send this thread not only to Racing Craft, but also to the manufacturers of the SEV system...let them know we're not ALL idiots who easily part with our money. If they can show me unrefutable proof their system works, I'll plop down $750 for the gain, but until then...
Maybe their engineers should stop hanging around the radium tanks on their coffee breaks
Maybe their engineers should stop hanging around the radium tanks on their coffee breaks
I already sent this link to Racing Craft to show them many would be interested if it was proven and/or money back. I also sent an e-mail to Scott @ King to see what, if anything Mugen might have as far as info in their Japanesse Racing network. I also sent an e-mail to AJ Racing in Canada to see if they could get any info from Spoon and if Spoon uses Sev. The only mail I got back so far was the one from Racing Craft I posted but there was little time before the weekend so maybe we'll get something next week. Seems so strange so many Civic Race Teams use SEV in Japan and its popularity continues to grow
One doesn't have to look too far to see similar instances in history...look at the pet rock! It did absolutely nothing and was no different than a rock found in the local stream or river bed, yet people paid good money to get their hands on them. Why? Because everyone else was doing it, so there must be something to it, right?
Isn't that the attitude being taken by some here, that there must be something to it because look at how many people are doing it elsewhere? Sure, if I saw a racing team that had numerous wins, or I felt like I didn't know quite as much as a team that WAS using the SEV system, I might be convinced to buy it in the HOPES that it does something for me (OK, not really, but some might). I can look at 50 different header designs and not be able to tell you which ones would increase or decrease power because I don't understand the intricate details involved in their design. But when I see systems that are supposedly based upon physical impossibilities, I look somewhere else...this is one of those cases. Like UL said, any company that quotes reasons for why their product's gains can't be documented should be looked upon with a large chunk of salt.
I must admit, though, I'll have to look into my electrostatically-charged wire mesh idea...I'll eventually get around to doing some rough calculations on the current draw to ionize that large of mass of air. Who knows, maybe we can turn this one into a real product after all. (Copyright by Dan Hintz, 2001

Shame on you, UL, for giving these con-artists*
the satisfaction of even a last lingering doubt. IMHO we should be reporting these #!$*%&!s to the BBB for fraud. Hmm, they use mail-order to ship products across state lines - we could make it a federal case!

I find it revealing that the so-called "experts" are always the first to sacrifice idolators and witches. I don't recall anyone marketing SEV to this board, or to the US. My impression is that the Japanese proponents of SEV could care less about whether MacGyver or anyone else commenting on this thread buys it. I really don't understand why you have to come off like arrogant, know-it-all jackasses, but I really, REALLY don't understand why you have to insult and ridicule the people that use and sell this stuff.
The bigger they come, the harder they fall -- applies to egos also.

Here is copy of my reply on another thread on this subject, just in case you have missed it.
"Ok I can easily understand how unbelievers you can become about this.
After all, I had similar reaction of disbelief about this thing called SEV.
Who is daring enough to sunk in 1000-3000 to try it out? Probably none including myself. But would you try something of this calibur but at cost of $30-$70?
Still majority will not bite I believe, but if that is the case then that is your loss.
The Japanese enthusiasts devised the incredible product while using the similar idea but at fraction of the prohibitive cost. While I befriended with this ingenious guy the process of getting to know fully about this has been very slow since both of us are very busy doing other things. However this guy or should I say group of guys have been testing and experimenting literally everyday to make things better.
I myself had a pleasure of using the basic early version of this on one part of the system and I felt the difference already.
These ion bands are made to fit around intake, exaust, fueling line, coolant hose.
The immediate benefit is the low-rev range and some mid and high rev ends can be benefited using different materials. Since this is universal all types of vehicles can benefit from this.
At the upcoming DC,MD,VA meet on August 11, if you can attend will be able to check it out on my car. I have two bands on intake hose but before the meet I am planning on putting the bands on exaust.
I will then post the pictures as promised on the other thread and I will assure you that additional report will be given to you.
I would want to wholeheartedly urge all of you to take interest in this but I will not push or make anyone to try this. If you still want to flat out reject this then it is your loss.
The advanced staged band will be ship to me shortly when the guys at Japan have some free time and when I get it I will share with you of what I find."
My statement is not based on the so called real SEV system costing hundreds to thousands, so I cannot say anything about that, but remember that my tinkering is with a knock-off version which happens to be costing fraction of cost.
I don't have to try to understand what is behind of this, I just like experimenting stuff based on my Japanese enthusiast friends, and the darn stuff is definitely doing something because I felt it good as well as those who rode with me.
It is true that my Japanese friend is indeed starting to sell this stuff and want to reach overseas too and he did ask me to try to distribute his products so you may think that my statement is biased to make things look good.
But my intention is not to make money on this, I would just like some of you to try it and find out if you like it or not.
I haven't contacted my friend for a while but I will start communicating with him again after all he did say he will send me the advanced type to me to try it which suppose to be far better than the basic one that I've tried.
Eventhough I've some money to burn to try real SEV but I won't because my Japanese friend has something of that calibur at fraction of cost. Still $30-$70 can be still significant to many so you have guy like me who will gladly sunk in my hard earn money to try it to benefit us all.
Wait for my further report and I will promise I will share everything that I know and find.

Sunchild,
I don't consider myself an "expert", and if you think I'm coming off as an arrogant, know-it-all jackass, well, not much I can say to refute an opinion. Granted, I made a few tongue-in-cheek comments about SEVs engineers or some such nonsense, but I don't think I ever directly insulted or ridiculed those that use/sell the stuff.
Companies are built upon reputations, and most can only survive upon their reputation (Microsoft being a notable exception). If companies such as Racing Craft choose to sell a product (yes, I fully realize they have not directly marketed it to our board, but that's a moot point for the discussion at hand), their reputation is on the line. If I were a business owner, I would not sell a product unless I knew it to be a worthwhile product.
RC has admitted in their response to 4373 that they have not run a dyno on the SEV system (fine, I wouldn't expect them to test EVERY product that comes in the door), but they ARE relying on the manufacturer to make some pretty outrageous claims. If I received a product for my shelves with claims like that, I'd either want to test it myself, or get some sort of outside confirmation on the claims...and sorry, but "...most of the cars in Civic racing has SEV. That fact itself testifies something. If it does not work, why a racing team spend more than $3,000 to have SEV." just doesn't cut it in my book as third-party testing.
As I've said in any other dicussions I've been in, I don't know it all, but what I DO know I use mixed with logic to make a good argument for or against something. If I'm wrong, I'll gladly admit so, as I've learned something in return for my folly. If you can point out where any of the logic has gone wrong in this thread, please speak up, as we all just want the truth. Egos and in-poor-taste comments aside, we haven't sacrificed anybody ("She turned me into a newt!"..."A newt?!!!"..."I'm much better now!"), we've only approached an answer to a question asked in earnest about a potential product for your cars. So a few bad comments get thrown in for good measure, but that's simply human nature...let's not get caught up in the petty things and look at the whole picture here...most here would now agree the SEV system is poppycock...hopefully saving $750 for a lot of poor souls who can now spend it on other more useful upgrades.
Oh, almost forgot...my intention on sending J's Racing and RC this thread was not simply as an attack on them, but hopefully a prompt to get more info. As I admitted before, I COULD be wrong about this product, and if so, JR MAY be able to send dyno sheets and how they were accomplished. REAL data sells me, not marketing hype.
