they don't need to hear about the letter I don't think. Just bring it in, say i'd like to make an appointment. If they give you shit, you need to make some calls...

S2k Dude,

Thanks. I especially enjoyed the video of them dropping the engine in. It seemed to go very smoothly. Was that at a Honda dealership?

ok, i think i'm pretty much screwed. my engine was a mess. i will post pictures later. diagnosis = over-rev. i am damn sure that i didn't over-rev, but there is no way to prove it with the destruction i saw today, it was either over-rev or a massive failure with the intake valve. the sparkplugs, while seriously messed up, were not the cause of the failure. i also called my insurance company today... they spouted off theft, vandalism, acts of God... "no, sir, mechanical failure is not covered under your policy"

my options are closing down quickly, as this is my only car. considering i still owe 18k on the car right now the options i can think of are:

1. pay the $8000 to honda, and have a new engine installed. while this wouldn't force me into bankruptcy, it would basically put me at ground 0 financially.

2. find somewhere less expensive to have it rebuilt. although, after seeing the damage, and reading the costs that others have paid, $8000 almost seems like a bargain.

3. work out a deal with honda and trade it in for something else... this is my least favorite, but most likely at this point, depending on what honda will give me for it.

I'm just trying to figure out financially what would be the best move for me now, and in the long run. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

bummer man. Go out and buy a POS beater to get you around while you figure out your options. Drop your insurance down to comprehensive since you won't be driving it, that should save you some $$$.
