To OP no offense but if you can feel the difference in gas, I think you should work for NASA! LOL

Give me a break you are looking for a used car, not a rocketship. Get ready to travel a long distance or wait till you are old and grey before you find a car if this is how you plan to shop for a used car.

I'm super anal about my cars but just because someone uses regular gas would not be too much of a factor for me if it was well cared for. I've seen a lot worse abused AMG 100k cars go for more miles with lesser maintenance. The s2000 is bulletproof in most respects, I would worry about the soft top and other costs if I were you.

Your WTB post is pretty hilarious too
Lol, if you think I'm picky, you should meet the girl I'm posting for. This is how I always have bought cars and always will, it works for me. I blame it on my stint working on car lots. What's wrong with my WTB post?
I kinda agree with s4play, your post is a little ridiculous/silly.

I think you need to just stick to looking for a stock car, or a near stock with stock parts.

In the market for a GPW S2000 with 50,000 or less miles, preferably AP2 (04 and later). The interior color preferences are Tan and if not Tan then Red/Black. We prefer an all original example, no mods with the exception of 2nd party like Mugen. If third party mods are present, they must be from Toda or Feel's and not Spoon, J's Racing, or any American( like Skunk 2) or chinese brands. Absolutely, no FI (turbo or supercharger) needs to have ever been on the car. We are serious buyers and have made an offer on a car already, see story HERE. Sell is pending a visual inspection and drive by us and permission to have a shop look over the vehicle so cars close to Pensacola Florida would be nice but we'll travel if we think it's worth it. Please chime in if you're ready to sell!
Somehow Toda and feel's are legitimate mods but Spoon and J's are not? Seems silly.

I probably would just say you're looking for a near-stock GPW AP2 with Tan or Red/Black interior.

Which per AutoTrader puts you with this list off the bat -

What's the mileage on the one you're looking at? I think they're gouging unless it's under 20K.

Hello S2000 Community. My Girlfriend and I or looking at a pristine 05 GPW S that has has passed mine and a shops inspection pretty solidly. While riding with the sellers husband he mentions that she has been running regular unleaded in the car because she couldn't feel a difference. My short stint in my local community collages ASE program tells me that is a definite no no in a car with 11:1 compression. The husband couldn't tell me how long she had been using regular so this could have been happening for years. The car is otherwise fine with a few other very minor issues and I want to pull the trigger but now I'm wondering if I may be getting myself into a rebuild or new engine in the not so distant future. Anyone on this forum have experience with the long term effect of running too low octane fuel in the S2000? Should I pass on this S?
The one we made the offer on had 31,000 miles on it. It was pretty clean but the problems included curb rash on 3 of 4 wheels, mis matched tires, moisture in brake fluid, somewhat week vtec engagement, questionable service history, and the rear bumper was very slightly protruding out on the right side. The top had been replaced due to a heavy box being inadvertently sat on it causing tears (per the owner). Everything else looked pretty tight. They wanted $23,000 firm or basically $400 dollars more than KBB excellent value for dealership retail. If you where selling how much would you be asking? Wait wait wait!.........PM me your answer

A bone stock car is what we are looking for but if a car has awesome Mugen or Toda parts, who are we to say no (COUGH recovering mugen whore COUGH)? I thought the spoon comment might wrinkle some feathers after I posted that so I'll put it like this, if I had a choice between three cars and one was bone stock, one had some Spoon and J's mods (power adders like exhaust not cosmetic stuff like reservoir covers etc.), and one had Mugen, Toda, and Feel's mods, I'd buy the stock car over the spoon/j's modded car and the Mugen/Toda/Feel's over the stock car. I put that in there just to be thorough but any of those mods are not deal breakers so long as the car and price are right but I've come across sellers (not S2000 sellers so far) that are under the mindset that their Spoon exhaust, AEM intake, and Keys Steering Wheel makes they're car worth five times more than that bone stocker sitting next to it while for me it would be worth less. I just did't want to waist anybody's time.

Hahahaha this thread is amazing. The op is worried about the octane used in a car he wasnt going to spend the money on... they were asking $23000 for a car that you knew was overpriced... you should have walked away right then and there. These cars are older now.. and just because its an s2000 doesnt mean it gets treated better than any other usex car hahaha its still a honda... a reliable honda. Who cares about the gad used... buy a car change the fluid .. the filters.... and the plugs.. andvthen new tires... then go get it detailed and enjoy it . End of story. Plus its even funnier when people nit pick... and then get the car and drive it like they stole it... abuse the crap out of it because they instantly became an f1 driver and generally do worse to it than was originally complained about. Please dont think im being a dick but come on guys... these are used cars... used $20000 cars... used $20k hondas for that matter. If your buying a $60k porsche then yeah pick it apart but seriously now. Best buy find one in good working condition for around your budget of $18k and go with that. Do the maintenance and drive it. Plain and simple

I don't think I understand what you're trying to say. It sounds like you're saying that if a car meets budget and is in working order, buy it? If that's what you mean, I disagree. The way I buy is more price and condition relative, no matter what the item, be it a car or camera gear or anything else, but thinks for the advise.

I was not in any way trying to be douche i just want to clear that up . Im sorry to the op. What i was trying to say is if its in your budget and its in sound condition and you can deal with any issues. Then you should buy it yes. But dont think because its an s2000 that it wont be treatedbetter than any other used car by the majority of sellers. Im just trying to say dont think every car is going to be a unicorn. Remember its still a used car

Honestly, octane in gas isn't too important. Octane just dictates what temperature the gas requires to ignite. So if the car was driven like a baby all its life, then its not going to make a difference. But i would pass on a car that was babied all its life, because that would mean the break in wasn't done correctly.

I am a firm believer that you have to drive it like you stole it to break in the motor.
While I agree the break in method doesn't seem to matter much in practice. Look at all the 250k sedans babied all their lives.

Mine wasn't broken in hard, and doesn't have any problems. Track days and all later in it's life. We're putting together a rebuild on another car and will break it in hard.
The break in process on an engine dictates how much peak power it can put out later in life. If the rods weren't stretched out during break in, you have just a tiny bit less compression compared to a motor that was broken in properly.

Yes, i'm anal about shit like this.
