I would consider a shift light. I am the right height that the entire tach is hidden by the steering wheel. When I accelerate hard, I am basically guessing at my rpm's, since I don't have time to duck down to see the tach.

Same here, I can't easily see the Tach. And you get like one flash before you bump the limiter! Besides, a dedicated shift light is closer to your driving field of vision. I know I could use one at Auto-X.

Off topic in that its not a S2000 but a buddy of mine has a 1988 RX-7 and it has a very high redline like our car. That thing wants you to shift at like 3,000 and he typically shifts around 4,500-5,000 or better. Cruzes at 4,000 on the highway typically.

Within 2 months he burnt out the light. I think we would probably do just the same. Besides where do you put the shift point? 5,000 around town driving 8,700 fast driving?

Plus: As you go up in guears you dont usually want to redline every gear because there is more torque in the next gear.....staying in VTEC of course.

Get the OMEX Sequential Shift light (made in the UK). It's used by many of the racing teams and privateers.

Runs about 85-95 pounds.....about $125USD and it is actually 4 little but very bright) LED's...one green, two amber and one red. It is just like the BTCC SuperTourer race cars have (and the same concept as F1), and as the revs increase, the lights will sequentially light so that when it is time to shift. all 4 are illuminated. This think works in real time and is an excellent mod!

You can set the shift point, as well as the 'stages' or interval of the other led's. It's an awesome unit and very small, not like those big-ass Autometer shift lights that look silly. The display unit here is about 2" wide x .05" high x .075" deep. The module that controls it is about 1.2" w x 3" L x .75" high. I used to have it in my CRX Vtec racecar, and will be getting one for the S2000.

It works really well and looks cool too! It is verp professionally made and extremely reliable. As it is so small, it is very unobtrusive. For any of you that have a Valentine One remote mount...it is smaller than that even! (about half as high, and even narrower).

Get it from this guy for 85 pounds plus shipping (email him and he'll get back to you):

They ship to the USA, and as the box is VERY small, it won't cost anything to ship!

Or, it is 89.95 pounds ex-vat from http://www.needforspeed.co.uk
These guys will ship to the USA as well. Their phone is +44 1436-678777 or fax them on +44-01436-674118. Part number OMSLS

Email either of these guys and they might be able to send you a picture.

I was thinking of goint autometer again. The one I had in my civic was adjustable, so I could set it for street driving at Honda's recommended or racing and set it at my redline or just before to accomadate for my reflexes.

But the problem with the Autometer is that it only flashes at the shift point - one flash that illuminates constantly when you exceed the set rev point.

The Omex actually leads you to the shift, in exactly the same fashion as the staging lights at a drag strip. Plus, it's tiny, but very, very bright.

I used to have an Autometer in my CRX, but the thing is just so "big-ass" (). IMHO, it would look totally out of place on the S2K's minimalist dash design. Omex is just a little box (dimensions in previous post) that sits wherever you want it to. It can't get stolen 'cause there's nothing to draw the eye to it, unlike the Autometer, where you don't have a choice. It has to sit "out there".

Anyways, whatever beats your meat! Your car, your call. Enjoy...regardless of the choice you make.

I'll look into it.

There's a much better solution when it comes to shift lights than a big 'ol Autometer shift light. You can get them here: http://harlan.sketchy.net/

I have one of these and I'm gonna use the electronics from it to trigger a single LED installed near the sun visor. Total install cost should run me about $40. I've asked for some help finding a rpm wire in the electronics forum but no one replied. Anybody here know a wire I can tap into?

JDM Pivot's blue shift light is pretty nice, I've seen it installed in my friend's NSX with the JDM RX-7 shift warning buzzer, it sounds superb and professional with the blue shift light when he redlines.
