Default How is the VIN constructed?

Does anyone know how the VIN is constructed? This is following on from the earlier thread regarding TSB#54 (2001 Owners Read).

My (Belgian) car is 2001 and the VIN is JHMAP11301T200376 whereas one of the american guys qouted theirs as being JHMAP11431T002427.

From this is it possible to ascertain which car was made 1st?

My car makes a rattling noise when decelerating but I don't find it a problem, I presumed it was just driveshaft whine and the sound is there due to the driveshaft being in close proximity i.e. under the centre tunnel.

Thanks

the last four digits is the build number. for instance, my '01 is #0477.

hope this explains the rest: https://www.s2ki.com/faqs/faq_vin.php

Thanks for that, but I'm now a little more confused as my VIN is JHMAP11301T200376

JHM - Japan Honda
AP1 - S2000 - F20C1
1 - 2 dr Convertable 6 speed
3 - Whats does 3 mean if 4 is base model? is the Euro Model?
0 - Check Digit
1 - 2001
T - Tochigi
200376 - Numbers Seems high if its a sequential number.

Thanks

the 20, not sure, that's what the "??" is for on the faq on s2ki.com. the last four digits in your VIN is the sequential number/build number/car number for that year.

Notes:
This information is taken from the Honda Shop Manual (Honda S2000 / S2000).
There is only one sequence number for gearboxes, so I'm afraid that the grind, etc are not related to a particular market!
There is a distinction between S2000 and the Honda S2000. I believe that this is also reflected by differences in external badging ie Honda badge above S2000 on the sides.
The shop manual also documents Vehicle Grades 6,7,8. These are deleted on an amendment dates May 99.
There appear to be no mechanical differences between the F20C1 and F20C2 engines, the differences are with Fuel, Emission Control and Electrical systems.
JHMAP1130YT is built as both Honda S2000 with F20C2 and S2000 with F20C1.
The Shop Manual does not document the countries covered by each Area Code. Any suggestions?
Interestingly, the Shop Manual also does not list the external colour / trim variations.

Rob,

thanks for that (lots of detail). Do you work for Honda? where did you ge tht shop manual from?

Interesting about the engine, I always assumed that the JDM models had higher compression ratio's. I used to have a JDM Prelude VTEC which has 200hp compared to the UK 184hp and I was told this was down to compression ratio's due to the JDM car having a different (thiner) head gasket.

Hold on, I'm getting a bit of deja vu here, the UK engine is F20C2 (I think) and the US engine is F20C1 (?) so whats the JDM 250hp engine F20(A/B)?

Hi Jason,

No, don't work for Honda, just a fan of the Stook. I tried to get the Helm manual, but it's not available in the UK and only covers the North American market. I got the shop manual from my local Honda dealer. It's pricey at about

Hi Guys

My VIN is JHMAP11301T200001

Am I right in thinking that this makes my car the 1st car built for the European market in 2001??? Neat!
