In fact, in my super responsive miata, I always applied a mild force on the shifter towards shifting out of the gear when I depress the clutch. The driving torque from the engine will generate enough friction to keep the synchro hub locked. As soon as the clutch hit the disengagement point, the friction was gone and it felt like a gate open and the shifter dropped out of gear. This gave shortest delay without rush to shift smoothly on the super responsive car.
i think there's something to this
clutch to floor before even moving out of the current gear
wonder if higher clutch engagement point can solve timing issues.

Too high clutch engagement point you risk having not enough freeplay up top. Too low clutch engagement point the clutch will not fully disengagement even when floored. If it's a timing issue, why not work on the timing itself but some workaround?

If it's just about clutch disengagement timing, initiate your shifting timing sequence by the clutch disengagement point instead of the start of depressing the clutch.

This is a lot smoother than my previous granny shifting technique I hope i'm doing it right
Glad you find your way to smoother shifts. If it's smoother and requires no rushing or forcing or guesswork, then I don't see anything bad.

Can we do a straight swap? The fact is you can have my smooth '00 tranny and I can certainly live with your notchy '05 tranny.

What is an ass transmission?

As an old fart, I can think of at least one possibility.
