Default shifter plate peeling

Since the paint, laquer, or whatever it is on the plastic plate around my shifter has been peeling away, I finally took it of and rubbed it all away. It looks like I have a chrome plate around it now.

What do you think?

I removed the center console by following the instructions on Rick's accessories site for changing the shift boot. I used a light abrasive solution, can't remember which off the top of my head but I will find out and post that later today, and I just took a cloth towel and wiped the remaining layer away. It was pretty easy and took about an hour to do including the removal and replacement of the center console.

I thought about painting it black but I want to see how it works out like this first.

When mine started peeling, I took it to the dealer and they replaced it for me at no cost. If any of you guys have the same problem, you might want to take it to the dealer....

Mine had been scratched up a bit for the last few months from my favorite sweatshirt.

Used rubbing alcohol on a soft towel to get it all off. It was easy to do in some spots, stubborn in others - 45 minutes overall for me. It looks really nice but you see every fingerprint/smudge. I used some wax, hopefully that'll help.

Looks a ton better...

yeah, jzr, try a few coats of zaino and let us know how it works. Also wonder if a solvent like googone or acetone might be more effective than alcohol.

I used some 1200 grit compound solution from Proper Autocare and a slightly rough towel. While taking the whole thing apart is a bit more work, I think it would be less messy than trying to rub it off with the plate still on as you would get the solution on the shift boot and surrounding carpet.

Anyway, I know that I can get it replaced but I'm sure it would do the same thing again, plus I like the way it looks now.
