Default Shifting smoothness & oil changes. Why?

I have a question. Are any transmission parts affected in any way by engine oil? In other words, does engine oil ever touch/lubricate a part(s) of the transmission?

After every oil change on my 01, I've noticed that the shifting gears becomes much smoother. Then as I reach the 3k to 5k mark, shifting progressively gets notchier and notchier, almost to the point of grinding, but not. I'm sure that it's not a placebo affect and I wouldn't question my driving/clutch pedal work as well.

I ask because when I think of how the transmission is mated to the engine, it doesn't make sense that an oil change should have any affect on how the shifter feels, but there seems to be an affect.

Any idea what's up?

haha, yea maybe you change your driving habits with a fresh oil change? The tranny is in no way connected to the oil condition of the engine. This isn't a wet clutch sport bike.

hahah... grrr. Fine, someone in the delval needs to drive my car then. I'm telling you...

My thoughts were exactly that there should be no connection to shifting =P

On another note, how smooth is the AP1 supposed to shift? Is a little bit of notchiness normal? Sometimes, shifting is butter smooth, and other times it feels like there's some notchiness to fight. It's completely random. I'll drive for an hour of completely smooth driving, then all of a sudden it gets notchy and vice versa.

I've done the transmission flush with Pennzoil syncromesh, Clutch bleed, and improved slightly, but haven't gotten rid of occasional notchiness completely. Any ideas? Got 87k on the Odo and time is coming up for a clutch change, but I doubt that the pressure plate is failing to engage or anything like that.

the tranny is pretty notchy (solid) into gears with little room for error to hit each gate. My AP1 seems to shift much better when the tranny is hot and in the summer.
Syncromesh is not recommended. stick with Honda MTF.
