sorry, hit the 'post' button by accident.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I just couldn't commit to buying a car off ebay, sight unseen.

good point, cdk456. I can see that good ones getting harder to come buy will bump the price up. Kinda reminds me of Economics 101. ;-)

I did recently, but I had numerous talks with the owner, the car only had 19000 miles. And I only paid a $500 before driving to inspect in person.

The guy still had the original window sticker, two of the three keys were still in plastic wrap etc. I was a bit nervous about using eBay, I lucked out

You'll hear horror stories and good stories about buying cars on eBay. Mine were good experiences.

I bought my first s2000 (an 05) on eBay, flew to Cape Cod and drove it back to Ohio. When i got ready to sell it (bought an 07), i listed it on eBay and a guy from New Jersey bid on it and got it. He flew to Ohio and I picked him up at the airport, we did the paperwork and he drove it back home.

I think buying it from a dealer (especially a new car dealer with lots of good eBay feedback on their used car sales) would be something to consider.

Here's an active thread on buying an S2000 sight unseen...

The car is only worth what you want to pay for it, buyers lowball and sellers are high on pricing.
I'm a student of the S2000 pricing and you can seen prices holding or even getting slightly higher. What happened last month is no indication what they are selling for closer to spring. The only one that needs to be happy is you at the end of the day.

I also sell and buy off of ebay, I've never had a problem as a seller or buyer.

I just bought a 2005 gpw w/ 32k miles and clean title for $21k it was the first owner. He had all the dealer stuff and all the keys and a clean carfax. It came with a hks exhaust, injen intake, momo steering wheel but with all the oem stuff too. I think I got a good deal on it and am very happy with it. I didn't take In mind what other people said like it's to expensive etc. I really wanted the car and was happy with the price so I went for it. But I did take it to a shop to do a PPI and the only things that came up bad were that the brake and clutch fluid needed to be flushed and the seller did that. So I think I got a good deal

Buy the lowest mileage and pay a little more. They are out there with miles below 10K in the mid $20K. That means you get original tires and usually all original equipment with no holes in the top. A set of tires, new roof and let alone the wear on the seats, mats and just general condition to fix can add up fast. The '07 with 9K miles for $26K starts looking a lot better than an '07 with 40K, wholes in the top and cheap tires for $21K.

Hi All,
Thank you for all your thoughtful posts.

Well the shopping is done. However I did not wind up with an S2000.

After months of research and trying to decide between a Miata, an S2000 and a Z4, I had decided on an S2000.

I had driven the Miata and the S2000, and liked the S2000 ride much more. I had initially dismissed the Z4 because I read somewhere that their ride was too much of a soft 'luxury car' feel. Silly me for believing what I read. I decided to take one for a ride while waiting to hear from an S2000 owner I had an offer with. I'm sure someone will tell me I don't know what a 'good ride' should be, but I fell in love with the Z4. Long story short, I'm picking up my new (to me) Z4 tomorrow, and am looking forward to the 250 mile ride back home.

Don't know if I'll be back here much, unless it's to say, "why didn't you guys stop me!"

Steve

You'll be in for far greater repair bills. Good luck and enjoy your ride. You picked the most expensive ride. I hope that you are loaded.
