How would a bent valve have ANYTHING to do with a short block failure?

You very well might have one for the list, however, it could be a bent valve problem rather than a short block problem. I'm not sure, but I bet bent valves would show the mis-fire code more than cylinder scoring.

How many miles on your car? Your dealer does need to diagnose the problem. At this point, I presume it IS a warranty issue. They should remove the valve cover and check the valves. Then, if that doesn't answer the question, they should pull the plugs and check for one that is black instead of gray. After that, in my case, they looked inside the cylinder and found the cylinder wall scoring.

Best of luck and keep us posted.

Well last time it was in they took the cover off and said they checked the tension and all this and saw nothing wrong. So I pressume they would have enough knowledge to see if it were bent. Least I hope, if not they are bigger morons then I thought. The thing is they will not go any further with out me being subject to a tear down fee. Not only do I not have the extra 750 for when they break it down and deem it my fault. But I am leaving it to my attorney at this point who is dealing directly with my DSM. So posted I will keep ya. In the mean time I know not to drive the car lol.

If the valves were okay when you last took it in, and if the check engine light comes on and there's a misfire code, and it makes a bad tapping sound, they should diagnose it for you without your having to fork up $750. First they should pull the plugs and see if all are a nice gray white or one shows black from incomplete combustion. If a plug is blackened, they should put a scope inside the spark plug holes and see if they can see some cylinder damage. That doesn't take $750. You do have a warranty for heaven's sake. Just because over-revving can break engines, it doesn't mean every owner is presumed to have destroyed his own engine.

You want this solved without lawyers if possible. Ask the service writer to contact Honda-Tech and ask Honda Tech to authorize this much.

They would be able to check the plugs, see how well the valves are seating (compression test), and look at the cylinder walls (scope) without taking the engine apart at all.

Loving_my_S2K,

I don't understand what you are going through, but you have gone on and on about how this is the worst car you have ever had... and you will never buy another Honda ..., but I am getting the impression that you are just whining. I don't really have any justification for this, but I have driven ALL of my cars harder than ANYONE I know (several hundred thousand miles with several Hondas), and I've driven my S2000 hardest of all. I have 19K on my '02 S2000, and I haven't had to have ANYTHING repaired. The only time it has ever been to the dealer was for my 2nd gear grind, which I solved myself by changing to better tranny oil.

gernby,

I have posted numerous times, not to whine but to let peeps know whom have had similar issues that they are not alone and to get feed back from them on thier experiences. Im glad to hear that you have had nothing but good fortune with your S2000. Me on the other hand have not. There is a link form a post above that will take you to all that I have been through besides this. Feeling this way did not happen over night. It Honda a full year of disregard and all out sickening treatment to get me this way. I wish you the best of luck in continueing your car good fortune, thanks for the 2 cents =)

Hi Guys. My 99/00 Black/Red s2000 got the Death Rattle. They say its my fault. Has anyone had luck with Honda Australia ? As there are less cases here I am worried about the $11000 the Honda service centre guy rudely said i would have to pay. Not that he could identify the problem.
