short shifter;fact or fiction?
as i recently was mentally going thru my list of past cars,it occured to me that the mythic honda "short shift throw " maybe isn't so unique....certainly the lotus 7 had as short a throw...as did most of the old front engine english stuff,tr3's spitfires, sprites and most any mg...interestingly tho the lever and the throw on my old europa is actually tighter than the s2k....perhaps it's just a case of way too many young guys having made the leap from front drive cars....any other super short shifters on newer stuff???anybody out there have a diablo or a mclaren to compare????[a thought..how 'bout a 944?..i've never driven one..]
Interesting point dbw. I've not driven any of the old, fine British machinery, but the throw in the S2000 shifter is certainly much less than Mustangs ('96) and Porsches ('89 & '94 911 and '99 & '00 Boxsters). Last week I bumped into a guy driving a beautiful black Europa at the gas station and we chatted a while about our respective cars. He let me slide into his car (it's nice and snug too .. and REALLY low) and moved the lever around with the engine on (nice sounds from back there). After he did the same in my car, our impression was that the S2000 shift was much shorter. His was a '74(?) with the Ford twin cam, if that makes a difference. I want one
