Here's the situation, back in October I bought a brand spanking new spa yellow S2000, drove it to work once or twice ( I work in DC ), and couldn't stand the harsh ride ( at least I thought I couldnt' ) and sold it back to the dealership. Well, I regret that decision because I absolutely loved the car ( I test drove it again a week ago and almost cried ) and now I am willing to do almost anything to get it back. I ended up buying an SLK 230 because I thought it would satisfy my roadster needs, but it fell way short of my expectations and can't even hold a candle to the S2000's performance.....I NEED THE S2000!!!! So here are some of the options I've been considering:

In both situations the slk230 is going to be sold:

1) Buy a daily driver (like an element) that I could pay fairly quickly and then get the S2000 at the end of the year around 2004. Only problem with this is that the S2000 might be discontinued or possibly changed by then. I like the s the way it is now and I don't want to miss my chance of owning a brand new one.

2) Buy an S2000 now and use it as my daily driver, although i really don't want to subject it to the punishment of 395 through downtown.

So what does everyone think?

btw does anyone here know anyone that wants to buy an 99slk 230? black w/ red interior, 5spd manual, convertible hardtop, 17k

What kinda dope they putting in the water up there? You had an S2000 and threw it back to the dealer because you didn't know that you liked it till it was gone?...........What branch of government are you working in? You are right that nasty ole slk shouldn't be in your driveway........How much you wanting for this nasty old beater of a Mercedes??
Something may can be arranged......
Hey, I just remembered I have a just broke in Red Berretta GT (an 89 with only 104,000 mi on it and the last 44k were on a brand new target engine) we can swap even......I know I'm getting the short end of the stick but , what the hey...I'm just that kind of guy.
Then you can figure out if YOU deserve to have an S2000 sitting in your driveway.

Flipman, I got a beater (old Ford Fiesta diesel) AND the S2000.
I'd heavily recommend it as you get the best of both worlds and you don't really lose much money as the diesel is dirt cheap and the mileage saved on the S gets you a better residual.

Plus you don't have to worry about parking the S in dodgy places - just take the beater. Having a tin top when you need it is also nice without the hassle of lifting an S hardtop on and off (my beater car cost less than a hardtop !)

Also, the beater gets dirty and the S stays nice and clean in the garage until I want to drive her.

Flipman,

I bought you're 02 from Coleman.

Thanks for bringing it back to the dealer so I could get a great deal

I sure hope you didn't abuse the car for the short time you owned it?

I bought the car as a 2nd car, I have a 98 CRV which I use for work and drive into DC for meetings. DC roads are terrible and I would not be willing to drive the S2000 downtown on a regular basis.

Buy a (Honda) beater, trade in the SLK...(YUK) and buy another S2000.

There...

George

I drive a beater for every day commute and my S comes out if the sun is shining and I want to cruise. Never will I drive it to work unless it is the last car I own. And believe me, I will get rid off any other car before I will sell my S.
So, I think buy a new S when you have the money and get a civic or so for a daily driver!
My $0.02.

Perhaps you could buy a 2nd hand car as your daily beater and buy the S2000 sooner. I'd get something like a civic as a daily grind car.... no need to buy a new car as a daily beater...

Thanks for apologizing Ravskau, I appreciate it. My family and I have all worked hard to be at the positions we are now, and I'm sure that's something everyone can appreciate.
