Which should I go for AP1 or AP2?

I would never buy an 04-05 for the lack of flashpro use. If I were to buy a new s2000 all over again it would be 03 or 06+. Currently have an 07 with a flashpro. No ap1 can take me unless it has gears in it. This "soft suspension" thing I don't believe either. I haven't tracked an ap1 though so I could be wrong, but I bet I can get a better time on a track with an ap2 over ap1.
Stock for stock, the better time around a circuit is probably due to the higher torque characteristics of the AP2 motor rather than the equivalence of the AP1's suspension. I've not driven an AP2 but I can say with some certainty that while most will swear by the AP1's suspension over the AP2, every single book I've read or am reading on race car driving states that lap times and races are won on the straights and not in the corners. I would be pretty inclined to believe you'd post better times in an AP2 compared to an AP1 for the simple fact that you'd be able to gain better exit speeds and subsequently, higher top speeds in the straights.
If you came to cayuga with your ap1 and let me drive it, we could try this out yes ? There was a video though where the drift king was able to hold a higher speed through corners with ap2 suspension, over ap1 suspension.

Just to let you know, that video with DK comparing the AP1 to AP2, the AP2 set slightly faster lap times. It was determined that this mainly was due to the bigger wheels and tires on the AP2. Once they bolted the AP2 wheels and tires onto the AP1, the lap time was virtually the same.

All in all, from a driving dynamics standpoint, the AP1 is more engaging and raw to drive where as the AP2 is less sporty, but much easier to drive quickly. Basically, the driving experience in the AP1 is better, but the practicality and refinement in the AP2 is better.

I know this is an old thread but I just wana clear this up for anyone stumbling on this thread. This did not happen on the bmi video. When they switched the bigger tires to the ap1 the times were not identical. The ap1 clocked a faster time by .5 seconds , but still not identical to an ap2. The ap2 was still .5 seconds faster with the ap1 running the bigger tires. Also keep in mind the ap2 on the bmi video holds a 2.0 motor as well. They determined the better suspension setup was the true factor why the ap2 was faster than the ap1
AP1 time 1'12"120
Ap2 time 1'11"151
AP1 time with ap2 tires 1'11"646

That video you are referring to was not very "scientific" as far testing goes. And the difference was 1/2 second. That wasn't the most controlled environment. In fact if you look at the "fastest" times from 0-60 and 1/4 mile and track runs across the years of any S2000 Ap1 or Ap2.... It was the AP1 that had fastest #s. But who knows how cold the air temp etc.

Here are Car and Driver Results of two shootouts and AP1 was faster to 60, slower at top speed, Ap1 better skidpad and braking than Ap2.... Point is........ Same car.... and any given day they are almost identical.... but there are many professional tests where AP1 has slightly better #s. In fact, the Skidpad on the Ap1 is closer to that of CR version than any AP2 tested..... Not to mention Car and Driver named AP1 the Best Naturally Aspirated Engine of ALL TIMES

The point was to clear up what happened on the video. And ur stats are comparing a US ap1 and ap2. The bmi ap2 is still equipped with a f20. And I said it was .5 second slower which in lap times is big difference

.5 seconds consistently across multiple runs maybe.... But that is insignificant and could be difference in a poor launch etc....

The Skidpad differences are more significant and in favor of Ap1...... as per car and driver results.

Not even multiple times. U run a 13.5 at the track compared to a 14.0 that's a significant time. Ur talking well over a car length . But again I didn't bump an old thread to start this debate. I was just clearing up what happened in the bmi video since the previous post was wrong . I'm ap1 all the way

My opinions:

Engine AP1
Trans AP2
Front bumper AP2
Rear bumper AP1
headlights AP1
taillights AP2 (unless Suzuka because the amber throws it off)

I have 3 S2000's.

08 CR, 08 AP2 and an 03 AP1. I like them all but if I had to pick one the CR is the best among them.

The 9k redline is meaningless... Car makes zero power at 9k. The ap1 is cool but for driving around on the street the ap2 is a clear winner.

That's cool. Having 3 of them must be nice. I would like another one and was thinking of getting an 03 for just driving around.

I agree! The Flashpro is what distances the 06+ AP2 over the rest.

If your interested i'll sell u my AP1. Since acquiring the CR its literally sat in the garage collecting dust... I could use a new car in its place.

Let me know. I will list her soon.
