in the winter
get some S-03s
drive conservatively in the rain
and you will be fine.

in the summer
go hit the twisties in Forest Park
drive passionately, enjoy the sunshine
and you will be fine as the finest wine.

I think a lot of the rain and handling stories are where peoples judgement overshadowed their abilities.
During Heavy rain you need to use Good judgement.

Love the SO2s, the Grip on dry roads is AweSome. When I'm driving in a light rain I have no problems driving 70 to 90. You just need to be smooth, like driving on a race track. Sudden Jerky movements could upset the car and put you into a spin weather your driving in the rain or all out in the dry. Drive to your ability and you shouldn't have any problems.

My S is a daily driver and I plan to drive her thru a Michigan Winter. She puts a HUGE on my face every day. If you Love to Drive, the S will put a on your face. If you like to sit back and enjoy the drive, you would be happier with sports car with Traction and/or stability control to help keep you out of trouble.

The S and there Owners
You have to own one to understand.
Sorta like the jeep thing, just 1000 times Better, and no mud required.

I'm in Portland and we get a little bit of rain here from time to time. I've read some of those stories too and they come across like "I was driving along, it was raining, and suddenly the car was spinning." Somehow I doubt it. I've driven rwd cars all my life and have never had a car just start spinning for no reason.

I think a lot of the stories are from people who are one or more of the following:
  • inexperienced drivers
  • inexperienced with RWD
  • driving with bad tires
  • just plain stupid
I put a set of T1-S tires on it and find that I have pretty decent wet grip and as long as I don't do anything silly when road conditions are sub optimal I've never had a problem..

The 04 is less twitchy than the pre-04's. Frankly, some of these handling "issues" are overblown, as many issues are on an internet forum.

Get the car, you'll love it.

I was a little leary of driving in the wet after hearing all the stories too, but my MY04 handles great in the rain, I even push it a little. When the back starts to come out it is easy to bring it back in. Just make sure you leave yourself enough room and don't do anything totally crazy.

I don't think the S handles worse than any of the multsitude of RWD cars that I've had.

I suggest you get the S. You won't regret it.
