Should I Pay Dealer Fees???
I was just about to purchase a car today but the dealer wanted to put in what they call the dealer fees for paperwork. Is this necessary or should I buy the car only as price of car, tax, tag/registration??? Thanks
To me it would depend on how high these fees were. I just pulled out my sales receipt for my S, and I noticed I paid a $98 "documentary fee." I was so delusionally happy to be getting this car I would probably have paid even more, guess that's why they warn you to have a clear head when doing the paperwork!
you usually cant do anything about dealer fees. dealers are firm on these charges and the only way around them would be to discount the price of the car itself to offset the dealer fees. some dealers have ridiculously high dealer fees and maybe they can lower the dealer fee for you, but i doubt they will eliminate it completely.
the dealership charges for the paperwork and shuffling stuff to and from the DMV. Fees vary state to stae, and sometimes dealership to dealership, but usually they are not negotiable. I 'd just pay it quick so you can get to VTEC and forget all your worries...ahhhhhh
I am also in the market for an S2k. During my research, I stumbled on to a site that has some pretty good info about buying cars in general...Not trying to plug a site...just sharing a resource that I thought was valuable.

When you buy something at the Wal-Mart, do they charge you extra for "cashiering" when you get to the register?
This is pack, pure and simple. Naturally you should pay the actual cost of registration, etc. But if a dealer cannot provide even a simple registration service without making you pay for it, shop elsewhere.
I put an order in for a Volvo XC90 last week for my wife and we'll pay list for it because the car is hot, but when the dealer tried to charge extra for processing the registration, I threatened to walk. He caved. (In MA, they actually have in-store processing of registrations and a stock of plates. It costs them nothing.)
Let the guy know you'll pay what it costs, but his profit is "in the deal" not sticking you with extra crap.

Dealer fees, DOC fees, etc. These fees are non-negotiable, they are pre- printed on the buyers order and can not be altered. A dealer at their discretion may reduce the price of the vehicle to off set this. The fees are profit, and MOST of the time fair, some get carried away.
I brought this subject up last week about dealers offering very low prices in their ads for S2000's. You have to look at the the total cost of your purchase, not just the sale price of the vehicle.

Of course they do! It's hidden in their profit margin. It's not like you go to Wal-Mart and ask them how much invoice is for soap or anything.
