Um, the price of insurance for me on my 2002 S2000 was $20 more/month than my 1997 Civic. Same model years actually had the Civic costing more on insurance.

I was in the same boat when I was 17!

It was either between an 06 Si or an S2000, I know apples to oranges, but I had college in mind. Long story short, I got the S as a senior in HS and I do not regret a single day (so did 2 of my other friends). As long as you are careful you'll be just fine, and I mean very careful! The trunk space is sufficient enough for grocery shopping, plus I have a sub in mine and I still manage to fit a ton of bags in.

Also, with a 2 seater you won't have to be the driver when everyone goes out, so your baby stays at home safe while you're out with friends. This leaves you with more gas to enjoy your S with anyway.

I just recently turned 20 and it still breaks necks like it did from day 1. Sure you don't need a hot car to get girls, but the S does help. =P If your dream is within reach, why settle for something less at a higher cost? Live the dream with the rest of us!

Also, insuring my car is a cheaper than insuring my brother's car, RSXS, not by a whole lot, but I figure the Si will cost the same to insure as an RSXS.

I wish I had this kid's problem!

Kid,
Life is short. Eat desert first.
Get the S2K. You won't miss the civic.

As someone that totalled my first fast car at 20 and lived to learn from it (car caught on fire while i got pulled out and everything), all I can say is be careful. You're gonna want to show off but pick your battles and keep your head. People are gonna want to see you crash, and want to see you without a nice car, et cetera.

Call my cynical but I remember high school as a bunch of haters when it came to this kinda stuff. Having said that....get the S and enjoy!

I'm 20 years out of hi-school and I rolled my S within the 1st year and I've been driving fast RWD cars for a looong time!

Like almost ALL things fun, you pay to play, if you play hard you pay big at some point.......

@ 17 the S wouldn't have even lasted me 6 months and I definately wouldn't have had the $$ to put it back together. I'm sure it would have eventually looked like a POS, all dinged up and patched back together. No one could have convinced me but I should have bought a cheap RWD ex hot rod and driven it for a year to learn how to not crash the Mustang I got right out of hi-school. Then I could have gotten the Stang and maybe driven it a while before I killed it.......that was an expensive and painful lesson....

Get the Si. Statically the odds are already against you and I dont think the AP1 will help much. I still have my GTI from highschool and I can tell you (like many others here im sure) that I did some stupid shit when I was 17. I can think of a couple of situations where if I had been driving anything other than a stable car car that I would have been seriously injured. Its not really the fwd vs. rwd its just that fact that I dont see an AP1 being an ideal candidate for a younger driver to learn what he can and cant do behind th wheel. Seeing as the Si you pictured has a local dealers plate on it if you do infact live somewhere around birmingham I would highly recommend looking into the local SCCA chapter no matter what car you end up doing. Autocrossing is by far the safest and best way to learn the limits of your car and will also make you a much better driver.

I traded in my infinity G35 for an S when i was a senior.

My chioce is.............SSSSSSSSS

i'm only 19 now... i did my share of stupid $hit..... Now to pay for it i'm dropping a f22c into my ap1 lol.

Point is you will really enjoy the S i promise. But just be very careful and think things threw before you do it. And don't show off. The best way to show off is ride slow.
