If they're installed correctly, they won't fall off...
Each to their own
I wouldn't expect them to fall off all by themeselves, but I've seen a couple of pics posted by people who managed to knock them off somehow, and it wasn't pretty. But, as you say, to each their own. Those eyelid things look weird to me too, but lots of other people seem to like them

I think they look good on the car. It gives it a more wider or girthier look from the front and 3 quarter view.
Remember that you have to drill into the sideskirt so once they're on.......THERE ON!!
You can install them yourself and probably do a better job than the dealership. One of the problems with the dealers is that they don't change the drill bit before drilling the holes in the side. The holes for the pushpins are smaller than the holes in the wheel well.
If you have the OEM spoiler and front lip, I'd get the side strakes. It's preference. I personally don't like a lot of the aftermarket side skirts but others do.
It's just another accessory that will make your car stand out from other S's. For some it's a cosmetic preference to have or not have them. For others it's a money issue. They don't come cheap and cost almost as much as the damn spoiler (3piece). If you can buy some used that would be cool.
Here's a picture with mine. (as if you haven't already seen them before )
They go well with the front lip because they follow the same line as the built in canard on the front bumper.
