Ever since i got my car it's been tracking to the right.. I didn't want to acknowledge it.. I thought perhaps it was because the road is slightly angled. but then i would drive on the other side of the road and it seemed to veer to the right as well ..

 

Get an alignment; potholes are generally on the right side of the road, which cause that side to get misaligned. In Michigan we don't have to worry about that though, the whole road is a giant pothole.

Check the tires first though.

 

Got my car back from the dealer with a new alignment and two new rear tires (S03s so now I'm mixing 02s up front with 03s in back).

Anyway, things are much improved. No pull to right with throttle so I'm guessing that was because of the wear in the right rear tire. The car tracks completely straight with hands off the wheel (on a flat road of course).

What I notice now though is the steering wheel isn't dead-on center, it's ever so slightly to the left when the car is going perfectly straight. I would say the displacement is less than 5 degrees but when I look down it's noticeable. I was going to ignore it, figuring that if the car tracks straight, the alignment must be OK. Anyone have thoughts to the contrary?

My general impression is that as long as the car is going straight without any input to the steering wheel, the position of the wheel is not that significant. So, basically I'm going to stop worrying about this problem for a while. BTW, I live in SF.
