Default Smell of Gasoline.....

Don't tell me to tighten my gas cap: Its tight. The past two days, I've smelled gas while driving the car. The check engine light hasnt come on like it normally does when the gas cap is loose. Plus, the car seems to be getting worse gas mileage than normal. It seems the smell is coming from the exhaust, but I'm not sure. Could the fuel mixture be to rich for some reason (my car is completely stock)

Did you buy the car used?

Smell under the hood, open the trunk, jack up one side and crawl under with a flashlight. If it's from the trunk, remove the spare tire cover and peek to the left. Fuel pump is under a cover there.

If I start my car for a minute and then shut it off, it smells like gasoline. That is normal.

yeah, but over a year ago, and it was in mint condition with less than 5000 miles, and it has been perfect ever since.

K.

Then I would search high and low for the leak/source.
I have started and stoped mine in closed spaces and never had the smell of gas.
If you smell gas, somthing IS wrong. But you know that. That's why you posted.
