If I install a Carbing radiator plate alone on my AP2, do I need to remove the OEM air guides?

Here is a newbie question.

Since the coolant is hot, wouldn't the radiator be hot as well? Why would you want to trap hot air with a radiator plate? I'm guessing the physical radiator doesn't get hot besides the coolant in it?
