Default So what is the best way to drive?

Darksigma's thrown rod debacle has gotten me thinking.. I know there's a lot of people on the board here who know a whole lot more about cars (and the s2000 specifically) than I do, and I'd like to hear your opinions about how you drive to keep the car healthy yet still have fun with it.

Most of the time a woman appreciates a gentile touch... but it's great fun to occasionally nail her, right? (my apologies to the females here )

I'll admit, I do enjoy chirping the tires during a 1-2 shift and I also like to have occasional bouts of hard acceleration - But I don't do either of these when the engine is cold and it's not an everyday thing. My absolute favorite thing though it long, empty, twisty roads. How bad is this and are there techniques to driving hard without stressing the engine/drivetrain? I'm still fairly new to this car so I'm still learning.

My S-speciic driving habits (so far):

1. I let the car warm up before driving it.
2. I never hit the rev limiter.
3. I only go into VTEC for short bursts.

What are yours?

A VTEC a day keeps the mechanic away.

The car warms up for maybe 30 secs while I'm putting on my seat belt, dropping the top, fiddling with the radio.

I VTEC it long and hard and autocross it, I bounce off the rev limiter at times (its just a fuel cut off).

I change my oils frequently and always check to see they are topped off at least at every fresh tank of gas.

I only use premium gasoline.

I use quality tires and check psi regularly.

I wash and wax the paint.

I condition the top and leather.

I pay to play - no shortcuts when it comes to car care.

I don't do smokey burnouts and I don't manhandle my shifting. I don't VTEC before 7 bars and in the rain (much). I don't drive on dirt roads at speeds over 10 mph.

car is meant to vtec... and the rev limiter isnt a big deal either.
vtec often and to redline (when it is safe to do so)

play with that car and enjoy it!!

If you shift very fast it chirps because the rpms are higher than the match. It's like revving and clutch dumping from a stoplight... except you're still moving in between gears.

What you're talking about is granny shifting where the rpms fall to idle and you shift into the next gear without blipping. It'll lock the wheels and lurch down.

What about the Jews, or the Protestants and Catholics? Are their touches not as good?

Write me down for a VTEC per day, only after it's nice and warmed up (10+ minutes), but I still haven't mastered the clutch yet (too used to my Integra's, which, while grabby, not as much as the S)

drive it like you stole it hahaha
like someone up top said.. pay to play..
anything other than normal driving will increase wear..
driving it normal will cause wear
a car is a wear and tear thing..
it can last longer if you never drive hard.. but whats the point of having a nice fast car and never do what it is suppose to do..
