contact Robbins Auto Tops to see if they are able to provide/sell you a kit. The OEM ones aren't designed for the 00-01 frames. If you look closer at your 05 compared to your 01, you'll notice the 05 has springs attached to that bar as well. The Robbins straps incorporate an elastic band that attaches the 3rd bow to the 2nd, mimicking the springs.

Also double check to be sure your installer removed the 2 middle tonneau cover attachment buttons behind the roll hoops/below the windscreen. If not removed the glass can contact them when folding down and destroy/shatter the glass.

A glance at my OEM '06 roof shows the strap in question that holds the 3d bar in position as the roof goes up. Limits the forward travel of the bar. Seems vital. As just noted there is a spring that pulls the bar forward to the limit imposed by the strap. Seems both are needed. (Repeated on both sides of the roof.)

The strap does not pull on the bar at all, merely limits it's forward motion as the roof goes up. It's limp until the roof reaches the closed position. The spring pulls the bar forward when the roof goes down so the roof folds properly.

HTH,

I do see the spring on MY05 and the bow straps. Let me check to see if Robbins Auto Top kits available.
My installer does not want to do the job unless I buy a new top.
Do I have to remove the whole top to install the new straps? and if you guys have some kind of DIY instructions will be very helpful. Thanks.

Same thing is waiting for me right now as i bought another s2000 and someone also installed the roof and forgot to attach bottom part of the straps
Miloking, I really appreciate if you could give me the instruction how to remove the parcel shelve and the side trims.

the roof removal guide valtsu posted is good start, obviously dont slash your roof ... 1)remove seats 2) door jamb trims 3) center parcel shelve ...now you have room to get to all the screws and clips from the corner trims. Once all the trims are gone just get 10mm socket wrench and unbolt the nuts for metal bars holding the edge or roof/rain gutter in. (side pieces will have 3 nuts each and need to come out fully so you can put the strap behind it).

you dont need to remove the roll hoop covers or the center console like the guide says....i did two roof replacements so far and never removed them (last time i even left seats in but its a hassle)

Miloking, Please point out which is the Center Parcel Shelve in the roof removal guide, I'm not sure what that is.
Thanks

I believe that's the tray that the soft top frame slots into when the top is down.

As others have pointed out, top removal is essential in the install of these straps. No real way around it, unless you want to make yourself go nuts trying to work around it. I agree with your installer for the most part. As long as the top is in great shape, there's no need to replace it, but at the same time, if the top is in questionable condition, your better off replacing it now as the labor is essentially the same. If you're in the NJ area let me know, i'd be happy to help.
