Default Soft top latches not staying locked

I just bought a MY02 S and the latches on the soft top will not stay latched if I am driving over a rough surface.

I haven't heard any rattling and the seal between the roof and the windshield appears to be OK (the roof did not let rain in during a recent storm, although the car was parked at the time).

When engaging the latches to lock the top in place, they do not seem to snap into place. Currently I am using some Velcro to ensure that the latches do not unlock when I a driving around but I would like to actually fix the problem.

Any suggestions on what should be done?

Thanks for the help in advance!

Is it just loose and that's why it won't stay latched? My guess is replacing the latches or the strikers on the windshield are worn. Try using some rubber tubing on the hook to add space between the striker and the latch. It might create enough tension to give it a band-aid fix until you really need to buy new parts.

As for buying new latches...I have no idea because price or where to get them as I've been trying to find some for a little while.

try for a top latches tsb at your local dealer - see if you can get the latches/strikers replaced for free.

The latches are loose and that is why the tend to not remain latched. Last night I tried putting a piece of cardboard between the latch and the striker and that tightened it up quite a bit.

The latch has stayed locked since then.

I think I will attempt to get the TSB at the dealer. Do I need to provide them with any specific information?
