Soft Top Question for installers
Question for those who have installed replacement tops.
My top was replaced after some really friendly guys gave me new roof ventillation in exchange for my pioneer double-din. Long story short I can't take it back to the shop that did the install.
I have wrinkles in the corner as you can see in my pics. My rear glass sits on my roll hoops. I have the rear brace that is closest to the rear window exposed and not under the flap as many have suggested. Do you guys know if there are any adjustments that I can do down at the rain channel area below the rear window to tighten everything up? Or is that just how these aftermarket tops sit?
I've searched high and low for weeks. I'm ready to take this baby apart this weekend.

croftoncustoms spent a bunch of time helping me out with this over the weekend over the phone.
In regards to riveting in the wrong place, he explained to me that the rivets go into spots that are pre marked on the top and holes that preexist on the rain channel.
With that knowledge I made measurments of the hoops in relation to eachother. It looks like the rear hoop is not as far back as it should be, as you can see the relation to the rear seam. This was strange because he explained to me that those should be factory straps that dictat the position of the last hoop. I confirmed that the straps were in the correct place.
With the car taken apart we didn't see anything out of the ordinary in terms of anything missing or being pinched.
My conclusion, granted I have never installed any top on my own, is that the top is defective.
The wrinkles in the corners are caused by a bunching where the window flap is bonded to the top. No matter how I stretch the top I am not able to get rid of those wrinkles because they are caused by the bunching that is occuring underneath. The mounting flap of the top, where it is riveted to the rain channel, is off. It is allowing for too much slack in the top and the rear window to rest and rattle on the roll hoops. I suspect it is also the cause of excessive rattling at the latches, because there is very little pressure there.
These are just my observations. I've never installed these and I have no clue what brand of top it is. I was just wondering if anyone else has had a defective s2000 soft top.

What brand replacement top is that? If not oem, it's up to the installer to make sure it's properly fitted and tight. Yours is puckering in the corners, and at the bottom edge near the door. It wasn't pulled tight. Bad install, imo.

The last "hoop" on the top (most posterior one) is farther forward than it should be.
If you can pull it back maybe an inch the wrinkles will probably get smaller or dissapear, there are some tensioners that are supposed to do this (pull last hoop back) in there.

I replaced my own top after a similar incident (this time it was for an old cellphone! they didn't find the sat nav cos is was in the secret place). Any way I had the same problem, in my case it was a Robbins top. Since my S is a daily driver the problem had to wait until I could find time. It was then that I noticed that the wrinkles were getting smaller. I just left it alone and after about 3 months they have completely gone.
