Soft top tear fix

hey i got a question for you guys has snyone seen a forum about actually replacing the soft top and not the frame also? my question is can you replace the actual soft top without removing the soft top frame or do you have to take the frmae out first and then replace the soft top ?

I used an iron-on patch but it didn't hold.

Here's some pics of the patch I did:
The waistband material is almost the exact same texture as the vinyl top. It blends in nicely even in sunlight:





Up close with a flash the patch stands out a bit. If you work slowly and don't rush like I did you can avoid all that loose thread that I'll have to clean up later:

Driver's side. I had to do the repair on both sides - at least it's symetrical!

Inside: The hole is much larger than it looks. I used Tear-aid to close it up and hold it together then I sewed the patch over the gash. There's some messy stitching there because I rushed but you can see it can look very clean if you take your time.
