Default soft top wear marks

The other day i noticed a few wear marks forming at the front end of the elastic bands. My original elastic bands lost its elasticity so i had to change them. However after changing them, the edges became sharper, and rubs against the top whenever i put it up/down. (ps, I'm not talking about the frequent "triangle" wear holes). Ill try to post pictures up later...

my question is... what the hell can i do to reinforce the soft top to prevent a possible hole? I was thinking a vinyl patch of some sort...? but what type of glue can i use...

Anyone have experience with this? Any tips/help appreciated.

oh, btw warranty = no more.

Thanks!!

i took my car to a local upholstery shop and they cut out some vinyl and attached it to my top where i was having wear holes for $20.

you have to shop around though, the first shop i went to quoted me $180.

i don't know what type of glue they used, but it was some sort of spray adhesive.

you could also try buying teflon tape and putting it over the sharp edges on the frame where it is rubbing your top.

I think I know what holes you're talking about. Are there two on each side about 12 inches apart where the top touches itself only when down? One on the center above the door and another at the fore most frame structure. I too tried taking pictures originally and it didn't show up very well.

Probably looked like two dust spots and now starting to wear into a hole. If so it's because one of the frames has a semi sharp edge that isn't covered by the hard protector strip around the frame itself.

What I did was use a spare soft golf grip or you can buy one for a couple bucks at walmart if you can't find anywhere else. Cover the metal piece causing the problem and taped it. Has been working wonders ever since. Doesn't look too wierd either.

I've used Permatex Black Silicone Adhesive Sealant with okay results. I'd attach a piece of fabric and by coating the back with the sealant. Unfortunately, this only held for a month or so before the sealant would start to break apart.

I've just reattached some fabric using Amazing GOOP to the inside of the top. Hope it'll last a bit longer than the other stuff...
