I was at my dealer, Commonwealth Motors in Lawrence, MA, this past Friday getting my oil changed and alignment checked out. While they were changing the oil, I asked the parts manager what the parts for a MY2002 softtop would cost. He brought up the parts list for the top itself and all the necessary body/frame pieces.

New top?

Just the top with glass and not the arms: $1100+
The body/frame pieces: $1200+ just for the arms and support pieces

Maybe he incorrectly queried his database, but I sure wouldn't have caught it after being stunned with a $2300+ pricetag that doesn't include labor. When comparing the parts lists for MY2002 and MY2001 there were several differences. He seemed to think that most everything would need to be swapped out.

Has anyone else actually asked their dealers what a 2002 top costs? I'm just curious if mine's on crack or not.

With that sort of money, I might as well get a hardtop ... Besides, the ragtop is basically useless to me. Just good for stationary parking at times to keep the dust out and provide almost zero-security. I don't know about you but the ragtop gives me a feeling that the car is basically not offering any form of security over the interior contents.

 

I think you're the first one to ask a dealer for the prices on a possible retrofit. It doesn't surprise me that it's going to cost that much. There were some rumors that Honda might come out with an affordable retrofit kit at a later date.
