NEVER leave anything in a car, S or not, that you can't live without or that might be a temptation. I've had a window smashed for a backpack with tennis shoes in it. It makes no sense. Don't leave anything in sight.

Perhaps they were after your seats. Check the bolts for them.

They must have gotten startled and ran off.

I agree with the suggestion to avoid leaving anything in plain sight inside the vehicle. The typical vehicle break in today is not your professional thief, it is young punks who will steal anything, and I mean anything, totally irrational shit from a few coins, cd's, GPS, keys, garage door openers, zero, nilch, nothing, etc.... .

I know of a car that had it's window smashed out only to have a kleenex box stolen, nothing else. We figured someone must have to take a dump and needed some wipes.

I feel your pain..... I suggest that you figure out a way to get an original top. I had mine replaced under warranty but my buddy had his done after a similar break-in and the insurance company only paid for the a replacement top given the fact his car was 05 and they factored in depreciation. He elected to go aftermarket and swears every time he is connected to his car....

Best of luck...
