Im sorry to hear this, I do want to know how this ends up working out for you since this is a big worry of mine. I would recommend getting a DEI alarm with proximity sensor in the future also.

Someone cut my top. Nothing was taken though. My insurance covered almost all of it. Honestly you really need to keep the car in a garage at night. When I go out I often find myself just locking the glove box and nothing else. All their is in my car to steal is a crappy stereo. I would rather them just take it then do $2000 worth of damage to the car then take it. Maybe if the alarm was better but it is easy enough to get into a convertible.

If you knew you had nothing in the car to steal and had some seat locks, would you guys rather have your car unlocked, this way if someone was INTERESTED in seeing what you had inside, they'd obviously try the door first and then when they find nothing, they'd just leave?

I leave my S2000 unlocked, with the glove box and trunk locked... anything of value I put in the trunk before I leave the car anywhere in town. I agree with what has been said...it's better to leave the car unlocked...any thief seriously after the seats will just cut the top to get them...why loose your top and what's in the car?

I agree with the suggestion to avoid leaving anything in plain sight inside the vehicle. The typical vehicle break in today is not your professional thief, it is young punks who will steal anything, and I mean anything, totally irrational shit from a few coins, cd's, GPS, keys, garage door openers, zero, nilch, nothing, etc.... .

I know of a car that had it's window smashed out only to have a kleenex box stolen, nothing else. We figured someone must have to take a dump and needed some wipes.
he even opened my hood, but i dont know why...
He was trying to open your trunk but couldn't find the trunk release. Same thing just happened to me two weeks ago. The only thing they got was the faceplate to my stereo. They also didn't know about the top part of the glove compartment because my ipod was still in there. Brand new top for a $100 deductible... Not such a bad deal after all.

Sorry to the OP this definitely sucks.

To the others who sensationalize this I parked my S on the street in Richmond, CA (I'm sure you've heard of it, for all the wrong reasons) for a year. Either your car gets broken into it, or it doesn't. Unless you have enemies... it's random chance. Your house can get broken into, etc... As this story is proof, even garages aren't 100% safe.

This is why I always keep my car full of trash and bank reciepts with a negative balance.
