hey bro,
just think about in a few years when u want to sell that car its gonna be super hard to sell it and, on top of that the car will drop value more than a clean title car. If you want an s2000 really bad i would say wait a few more months till winter comes. I have read that they dont sell very well due to it being a convertable.

salvage title for 18k thats a big car should be priced half that price. His "son" either got ripped or he's trying to rip you. Do not step into this deal. Even if the price was half of what it was I wouldn't buy a salvage performance vehicle. I would buy a salvage civic or accord for daily driving if everything checked out fine... but not a performance driven car especially this one.

good luck reselling this car later on for more than $5k... in fact you'd be better off parting it out.

this will insure that you get a fair trade-in or re-sell price when the time come to buy something else.
Trade in? lol... good luck on that one!

you do have to wonder why he was angry at the son.

And if the son's the type that's irresponsible, god knows what he's done to the car's transmission.

I would get some tranny fluid out to see if there are any metal shavings and do a compression check before I buy it.

DO NOT EVEN THINK OF PURCHASING!!! Its not even worth your time to go get it checked out. You'll find plenty of good deals that you'll be satisfied and not rebuilt. Like everyone mentioned, flooding is the worst of all the salvage problems. Again, do not buy this car. Its going to be a headache in the future.

That car is probably only worth about 10k and it would only be worth that if you have it totally checked out and you never intend to sell it, because you'll have a headache trying to get anything back for it.

for 18k (depending on your area) you can probably find a nice '02 or '03.

it entirely depends on the circumstances of the flood. If we're talking about a fresh-water flood, up to the bottom of the doors, I'd buy it. Watch a car detailer wash the carpet of a car with a garden hose sometime (I'm not kidding) - you'll see what I'm getting at.

Salt water, or to the point of submersion - run.

I'd take a car with flood damage rather than one with crash damage any day of the week. They aren't made of sugar - they don't melt.

Yeah, keep looking. Even if you do buy it, you would only be saving 3-5K off a comparable CLEAN title car. You have to ask yourself if its really worth it playing the "guessing game" if there will be any problems in the future.

You also have to think about the resale value of the car down the road. Its obviously going to be worth quite a bit less and is not really worth it unless you somehow luck out and keep it for many years without any issues frrom the car. But its a gamble...

If you really still want it, I'd talk him down a bit.
