Some DOHC vtec engines actually have 3 cams... with the 3rd being the VTEC cam down below the two regular cams.

A few quick tips also....

Don't go past 5000rpm until you have 600 miles on the car. (the racing cam or VTEC Hi-cam engages at 6000rpm)

Once you have broken in the car, do not go beyond 5000rpms until the engine is warm (you have 3 bars on your temperature gauge) If you do, the engine will cut out at about 6000rpm just like a rev limiter. This is because the VTEC works off of oil pressure, and the oil doesn't get to full pressure until the engine is at operating temperature.

Also, if you shift at 8900-9000rpm you will notice that when shifting quickly, 2nd gear may sometimes grind. To avoid that, either shift at 8500-8600rpm or go just beyond redline to the 9300rpm rev limiter. If you do either, it will not grind.

NOTE: not all S2000 have the grind problem, so you will have to see once you get your car broken in.

Are you sure? DOHC = Dual/Double Overhead Cam. Wouldn't 3 cams be a Triple Overhead Cam motor? Do you know what motor that is? Haven't heard of this before...

In the DOHC VTEC implementation, Honda put an extra cam/rocker in between each pair of intake and exhaust lobes/rockers. The three cam/rocker assemblies are now next to each other. The new middle lobe is the "wild" race-tuned cam-lobe. Using VTEC to link up all three rocker arms together, Honda is able to use either the mild or the wild cam-lobes at will.

pic but hard to see the 3rd cam....

you must have misunderstood that quote. like i described before, there is a 3rd lobe in between the primary lobes. the 3rd lobe has a 3rd rocker arm as well. they simply used "cam/rocker." i assure you there is not a 3rd camshaft.

Glad we could get you some info. If you ever have technical questions, go to the "under the hood" forum. There are some EXTREMELY knowledgeable people there.... and what they know will surely help you.
